I get very sensitive when people,as all too often happens, even with professionals-teachers,psychiatric workers etc, seem to think you are not trying/lazy/passive aggressive/ when you struggle with certain things.

There 's a tendency for people to presume that good verbal ability means you have good non verbal/practical ability . Hence the ignorant negativity that can be directed at you if your non verbal abilities don’t match up with your verbal abilities.

On this issue a lot of people are just not very understanding or tolerant.

Very much with you. I'm highly articulate, but my executive function is lacking.

There is a horrible thing where other people see my asperger's as a character fault.

My primary executive functioning difficulty is with organising and planning. A while ago schizophrenia.com posted about a site doing a temporary offer of a battery of cognitive tests. When it came to executive functioning I scored 1.5-2 SD below average.

Yep...people tend to be like that.

They tend to be judgmental. They tend to even fear someone who doesn't exhibit "ambition."

The word "people" is a general statement to me. The people in my world seem to be more caring, loving, and living their own lives than being passive or passive-aggressive.

Yes, this hurts me deeply. Not only do people think you're stupid, they also think you are a horrible person who is out to hurt somebody. These things cut deeply into me. I want to prove to those who matter that I am smart enough and good enough to someday achieve a normal life. Failure to make significant improvements in certain areas doesn't do my confidence a lot of good.

I agree, Zach. There are many nice people around who are non-judgmental.

Everyone differs in aptitude.

But folks don't differ in attitude about aptitude.

Everyone assumes that what they find easy is easy for everyone. So you must lack character and must be some lazy slacker if you can do fill in the blank as well as I can.

Have been both the victim and the perpetrator of that thinking.

I've been mostly the victim---hardly ever the perpetrator.

And If I was the perpetrator, I didn't meant to be a perpetrator; I just made a mistake in delivery.

Kraftie,

I've had quite a few of those embarrassing "foot in mouth" moments. I have said dumb stuff I later deeply regretted.

Too often times.

Sometimes, it's the inversed. I'm not very much verbal, nor had rely on it. Ends up assuming I'm articulate and very verbal when I'm not.
It's confusing.
Then it goes back again when people underestimates me for not being verbal enough. Or mistaking me as less mature or less educated.

Only to be surprised when times I get a bit more articulate than usual. Then along with expectations going up. Ends up with scratching heads if I happened not to be functioning well for a day, thinking that I end up playing dumb or hyper for today or something.

It's as odd as my own self awareness and other's else's perception of myself.
It's an odd cycle. Really, really confusing. I'm not the only one confused about well, 'me'. :? I've been trying figure it out why the inconsistencies...
All they know that I'm not very consistent -- some DO avoid me for it, some ended up curious, some did tried to understand and still as confused but let me be so. But some tried to understand and ends up being presumptuous of said inconsistencies.
No one else might figure why is this except for myself. Not knowing the right words for it didn't helped.

For all I know, I don't like assuming competence. And I wouldn't.

Istomic: LOL....Even on WrongPlanet, I've had a few "foot in mouth" moments.

I have been described as being having "foot-in-mouth" disease.

KraftieKortie,

Me too. I had some of those moments here, too.

I don't want to assume incompetence, either. Nor do I want to fall into the "If you can do this, why can't you do that?" trap with anyone. Nobody knows everything about everything, even their pet subject. I like to make friends with people who share my interests because I want to know more. I want to improve my skills in things I'm notably weak on so I can improve enough to become fully independent.

I passed by Santa Maria once on the I-5 (or was it the Pacific Coast Highway?)

It seemed like a very nice place. That would be a great place to attain full independence.

When I retire, there is a notion in me that I want to move to Eureka, where it hardly ever reaches the 80s in temperature.

I love it here. It is very nice most of the time. When it gets into the 90s, it does get to be a bit much. The car got really hot inside and made me feel very uncomfortable.
