Anyone else have a brain that echoes sounds in their head long after they are finished?

For example the other day my wind chimes had been sounding all day, and I went to tie them up so they wouldn't disturb me while sleeping and although I would swear they were still chiming, they were standing quite still. My brain was just echoing the sound.

I know people also do this with words and music, but I do it with reversing beeps etc. I wonder if this is why I have trouble processing sound in noisy environments, I'm getting double! :o

Don't you love brains!

Yes. Noises take up processing power in my brain by constantly playing over and over until my sound buffer overflows and I have a shutdown. Some noises can do this very quickly, and if said noise continues my brain effectively shuts off because of the noise. One instance that stands out for me happened in a supermarket, when someone repeated exactly the same announcement at least four times in a row - I didn't keep counting past that as my brain stopped working until the announcements stopped and things cleared up.

when i worked at madigan army med ctr a few years back, in the labor and delivery ward [where the mothers had the babies], the sound of the fetal bradycardia monitors drilled itself into my brain and i would go to sleep at night hearing that beeping alert noise. :hmph:

Yes - and try "ghost bagpipes" - LOL

I get this with visuals, too.

ah...i have more appreciation of the sounds in my daily environment now, since reading the previous posts.

the sounds that replay most in my mind are birdsong and music......not always pleasant music, though. sometimes it's a song i don't like, but it won't stop replaying. and sometimes the birdsong winds up being a rooster crowing, but mostly it's the little desert wrens.
