My strengths and weaknesses, how I deal
I have so much to talk about, I never understood myself but now that I do I can maybe help other aspies. Like many aspies I had absolutely terrible coordination, well my doctor recommend my mom that I play video games. I guess I can owe more than just who I am neurologically to asperger's because I was hooked. It was a pretty slow process, I still remember my mom was better than me at Sonic (first game I ever had) and so I tried to compete with her. After I learned how the buttons worked I didn't have to look down at the controller constantly and my hand-eye coordination began to develop. I wasn't normal in any sense, I know this isn't typical or at all related to asperger's but I am ambidextrous. I learned how to write with both hands, even though I can't write very well with either. I would start on the left side of the page with my left hand, get towards the middle of the page and switch off to finish it. Well besides video games I have always been fascinated by ninja and I watched old Bruce Lee movies and got interested in nunchaku, (nunchucks) well it turns out I still didn't have as good hand-eye coordination as I thought. Nunchaku are the most difficult weapon and has the steepest learning curve but I wouldn't give up, I was fixated on learning them and developing my reflexes. It worked, I now have excellent hand-eye coordination and maybe even the best in the world for an aspie. I am still sadly very uncoordinated with my legs, I can't skate, I can't rollerblade, and I certainly can't dance. I'm not as clumsy as I used to be but I do trip sometimes on occasion. I have been thinking about the video game Dance Dance Revolution to work on it but I already have a lesser known game called Active Life: Outdoor Challenge and while it may not be focused on dancing I find it an excellent tool. So to sum it all up, I am who I am solely because of asperger's and video games but if you want to get technical it's just because of asperger's. It truly does define me but people keep saying otherwise, I don't see it as a bad thing because people tell me I'm a nice person and to me that is all that really matters.
Oh yeah, please post your strengths and weaknesses and how you have dealt with them.

Dude, if you want to know how to dance, don't get DDR. (I'm not a fan of the franchise.) 90% of solo dance styles are WAY easier than they look, once you get into it. Just watch some youtube tutorials on c-walking (V-shuffling, switchbacks, spins, etc), moon-walking, and a bit of popping&locking, or tutting, or just whatever your into!, and practice what you see until your comfortable, and then improvise from there. If your steps & moves are too fast for the untrained eye to follow, then the viewer is amazed. I'm pretty bad myself, but I just mix it up and make all my motions deliberate, and most ppl seem amused.
What I'm trying to say is that most dancing is more a matter of practice and familiarity than coordination. So many dance styles are founded on "clumsy", awkward, or unusual movements.
I suck at videogames too, which is why I prefer strategy games and puzzle games.

Well when I try to dance I make people smile or laugh and I actually feel good about that, I don't really want to learn how to dance but I do appreciate the advice. popping&locking always did interest me so if I change my mind I'll probably start there.

Look at how people danced in the 60's and 80's - pretty uncoordinated. Oh, sorry if I offended anyone. I'm no better. Get a few drinks inside of me and then I'm dancing to some song that I'd hate if sober. I'm pretty bad at it too.
I'm very uncoordinated too. I like video games and I finally agreed to play Tony Hawks Downhill Jam against someone. I love that game and I'm pretty damn good at it, but this guy kicked my ass! I kept running into walls and then my hand started to cramp up.

So you don't really have any way that you deal with your uncoordination?
