Something interesting I came up with
I had thought how common it is to see so many aspies online some people think AS is a new fad and made up and everyone thinks they have it these days. I had thought about how not many people use forums because it's a big world out there with over 6 billion people and not all of them use the forums to chat on. Only 1% of the world population is one the spectrum.
I go to another forum for NTs and aspies in relationships and one NT there told me how it's hard for her to use the forum there because she prefers real life so she can see the person. she prefers to discuss things out in the real world than to the computer screen because it's so hard for her and it is already hard when she makes posts. I found that to be strange because why would she need visual? Why does she need to see the person, hear the voice, see the body language, not see the text and pick up the tone in that? It just didn't make any sense so I thought wow is that an impairment for lot of people?
I see lot of people using forums but I realize that isn't everyone using them, it does seem like a lot because it's the internet and it brings it all together and lot of people don't use forums. So I decided of course we are going to see lot of aspies online, communicating is hard for us in the real world and we find it so much easier to socialize online so lot of us will be on the computer chatting and posting. So everywhere you go online, there are lot of apsies at that place and lot of aspies at the other place. I bet most aspies use the computer to socialize and it's more common is us than NTs. Of course introverted NTs will also be using forums, and ones who are maybe not quite normal themselves because they are also socially awkward and other things while the rest prefer the real world and won't use the forums much or not at all. So it will seem like everyone these days have AS or think they have it because the internet brings it all together and I think it's more common for us to be online. My husband agreed when I told him that theory and he said "you're on it all the time." He uses the computer for the same reason. His life is the Evony game while my world is here and other forums. We also decided we are not going to be seeing many severe dyslexics online because spelling is very hard for them and people give them a hard time about it and when we do see dyslexics online, they have it mild so their spelling is good. My husband doesn't use forums due to his dyslexia. Spelling is very hard for him and when he uses spellcheck, all the words look the same so which spelling is correct? He often asks me "how do you spell (insert word here)." He has used forums before but stopped.
Thoughts?
So...we're taking over the internet?
Sweet!
I think there's some truth to what you say. The computer "scene" has always been dominated by the introverts and socially awkward (hence the stereotype) so it could be why so many people we meet or talk to online have "quirks" to put it gently.
