Parent's personality effecting the personality their child

Do you think a parent's personality can effect the personality of their child?

I know that genetics can dictate that the personality of a child is similar to their parents.

I am talking about things like a parent's attitude, how they handle pressure, and sense of humor. Can that rub off on a child and effect his or her personality.

I would assume so, at least to some extent.

Genetics do not determine personality. Where did you hear that one?

But the personality of the parents can affect the environment in which a child grows up in.

I think my parents' personalities affected mine.

Those are 'learned traits'.

AS can be called a type of personality. AS can be genetic. Why can't other persoanlity traits be gentic?

You don't notice that children often have the same personality and brain skills as their parents?

Learned traits can greatly influence the personality as a whole; environmental factors cannot be ignored.

Of course so what. That about 90% of who we are, what we acquire as we're growing up and it has nothing to do with any conditions that we might have.

That seems like such a well duh kinda thing that I'm curious, why do you think a parent's personality wouldn't affect a child's personality?

Or is it an aspie/autistic perspective? If a child is in their own world enough, can they be unaffected by their parent's personality?

Personality is partly genetic, yes, but envioronment is a big factor too. So it would be very unusual for the parents personalities (or whoever raises the child) to not affect the child. (I assume "effect" was a spelling error and you mean influence [affect] rather than cause or bring about [effect].)

Sure, and so can my petrol station. That does not mean either of things actually are a type of personality, nor that it is accurate to call them as much, but they can both be called such.

AS is not a personality type.

Oh come on. You have to know that your argument is BS.

AS is integral to our personalities. A definite influence.

But, even if you disagree with that, it's something that happens within a human, just like personality is.

I think maybe that you're getting mixed up about personality and symptoms of various conditions as they are two completely different things. AS is not a personality disorder or condition. That is a different diagnosis and if you think you have that type of condition then address it specifically.

I think genetics can affect personality. I have personality traits of my father that I didn't learn from him.

Dogs can be bred for temperament.

Okay, so here's what you do.

You get a bunch of adopted kids. You give them personality tests. Then you find their parents; and you give them personality tests. Then you give their adoptive parents personality tests, too.

Results: Kids definitely get some of their personality from their birth parents, even if separated from them very early. Current estimates hover around 50% genetic; but there's a lot of variation because personality tests are so fuzzy and the culture gap between generations tends to confuse things.

That doesn't mean your actions are pre-determined. High aggression, for example, can play itself out either in a love for competitive sports or a love for fighting. Fearfulness can turn into sensible caution or paranoia. Genetic personality is very much affected by environment, and while it will always be there, the way it expresses itself can change depending on how you grow up.
