Teaching to the aspie
Ok, My name is nick, im 25, at the age of 11 i was packed off to special school, there were very few aspergers children at the school, it was mostly for more serverly autistic children, as you can imagine i hated it, battled it every step of the way untill eventually they basically thew me out, this was handy, as it forced the hand of the LEA who placed me into a main stream high school, 0-60 in 2secs, i had to learn about moving from class to class, having different teachers class mates, no support, how to act, how to use labs for science, I managed because hey im a super being like the rest of us here, they just forgot to add the emotion chip
So.. I gots my gcse's then i gots some a levels, a hnd, a bsc, tried a masters, f****d that up, and then tried a teaching course, f****d that up as well, part of that class *and feel the discrimination here* Write how each lesson you took made you "Feel"
Well, i was sent on placement back to the special school i attended, and omg it was a revalation, the staff actually did know what they were talking about, it all went really well, bonded with the students and staff on some levels,
however at the same time i realised how little they knew, mostly support staff, one morning on of our students, was really ancy, and tbh i was feeling it as well, he was cupping his ears, and tryin to get into the rec area this was strange as he was normally really good with rules and morning routine, then i clicked,
the radio was on, about level 1 volune playing static, i went over turned it off, came back, staff just gorping at me, student relaxd and being behaved, they didnt realise just how much we hear, and how it can piss us off,
this went on over the weeks i was there, i was adjusting lighting, and sound and colour all over the place, results were fantastic,
And this got me to thinking, how much in my environment as a child contributed towards my behaviour before i knew how to tell people what was wrong and how to fix it,
anyone else got an experiance or a view on this, it would be cool to hear some responce

nicknickattack, at times, I was like that boy in your class. EVEN if you tell people, they don't seem to care, and I never attributed it to ignorance since something like "Could you please turn that radio off? It is hurting my ears." should be understandable, at the time, by about 100% of the people in the immediate area.
Anyway, I agree with sinsboldly. they probably REALLY need a decent teacher that cares.
well i screwed up the course, i might go back to it one day, the university just didnt get that having to write a personal reflecton on each lesson and how it made me feel was like asking me to disprove gravity,
I think we've all been that kid, it's hard to imagine what a regular school would do with that information, i mean it was a bit of an eye opener to some staff who have been 10 years in that school as some of them taught me,
