I have Asperger's of course and I want to do my photography project on it- it is going to be an "insider" type documentary thing but I don't really know how I should try to portray it.... I am definately getting a few pictures from inside my haven... Since that is a kinda important part of my life- but what else can I do? Any ideas are welcome

Edit: Most of that doesn't make any sense. I just mean- all the things I can think of involve moving (like stimming) or sound, smell, touch... Or things in my head I couldn't explain in a million years...I don't know how to capture that in a picture.

I'm doing something similar, though it is my interpretation of autism and it will hopefully make people think of it in other ways, not just the stereotypical rain man kind of ways most people I meet see it as.

Use your imagination. When you stim what are you doing? Relate it to yourself and it will be easier to know how to capture it as a photograph. I was very bad at drawing hands or someone holding something until I looked at my own hand holding an object.
I have an idea for close attention to detail, where someone is holding an object right up to their eye. I'm actually going to to this in black and white and printed on canvasses, so I don't mind if you use my idea. As long as you don't make money off it.

LOL sorry I will be making money for it- 13 years from now when I graduate and I can write down I did photographyas a required art class xD.

I thought about something I do where I have my hair in front of my face and use it to make frames around objects just based on how ever it falls- or I watch water drip off my hair. It is facinating... I am going to see if I can get something like that.(Don't want to damage the camera though)

I thought since it was a documentary and we could either take a stand on something, do a societal thing, a insider type thing or a how to I would hit on that... since so many people don't understand I would like it if they did.

I really wish I could capture the babbling effect I sometimes get when people talk to me and I just can't understand... I hear it but it makes no sense... Normally that only happens when stressed

Well, that's ok. I suppose it doesn't really matter if you do make money off of it. It's not like we both can't use the same ideas.

You should try to use a tripod or self timer. Or both.

Another tip: a motion blur may create some nice effects, for the right situation.
Just experiment with different settings on your camera, look at a lot of different photographs to get some ideas and even draw out your ideas if it's to hard to picture them in your mind.

have you tried timer on the camera, where you set the timer on the camera and you have time to pose infront of the camera (tripod required)? that way, you don't have to worry about getting your camera wet. I remember those fun days in my college photography class at the Art college that i went to. My topice was people in society, going about their lives-doing everyday things-candid photos in black and white. I was facinated by people interacting in their environment in everyday situations.

I think it's a great idea... I would suggest taking a look at the WrongPlanet Youtube page, LINK

you might find some good ideas or subjects to photograph :D

Good luck...

could you photograph a child (or you) isolated from a group of playing kids (some people in group talking together), looking at them with the desire to be a part of the group but not knowing how to get involved? or something like that?

lol what a coincidence.. I'm also doing a photography project... mainly on mental health with a bit of asperger's in it, but I'm tempted to change all of it to asperger's only.
would love to hear some of the replies here.

Here is what I am doing. I am 44 years old and have just embarked on a music ministry in local area churches. My presentation of music includes stories of people who have overcome obstacles in their lives through faith in God. I am including my story in this presentation too. I am using a computer slide presentation of about 5 minutes (I play music along with the slide show). The presentation will show this baby grow up into a teenage boy. Along the way, text slides speak of this baby being born with autism after 45 minutes of oxygen deprivation at birth/emergency C-section delivery. Then, placed among the picture slides are text slides that deal with autism awareness. For example, autistic children are capable of love, autistic children can achieve great things, autistic people have emotions, etc. Then, at the end of the presentation, I reveal that the boy in the presentation is me. I give thanks to God for allowing me to overcome the obstacles in my life.

I get what you're saying. The apparent incoherence of your posts is actually a hint at your real meaning.

an insider-aspie-photo-project. yes.

here are some ideas that occur to me as I consider this idea (keep in mind, these ideas will reflect my own experiences, biases, and interests)........

* a winding brick pathway with a substantial number of bricks removed.
* a nearly-dried-up lake with a rowboat on it.
* portrait of a person with an old-fashioned radio speaker where their mouth should be.
* a black and white shot of an old truck, with tires and doors missing.
* bees, behives, ants, anthills... insect symmetry.
* the reflection of yellow blue and white light through rippled water, shot from above.
* computer circuitry superimposed on a human face.
* a sepia-toned picture of an artist painting a self-portrait in some kind of dilapidated house.
* the canopy of a cypress swamp.

.....out of a daze..... where on earth did all those ideas just come from!?!?!?

The feeling in your eyes is the most important part of a self portrait. You may not see something at first that will strike people's emotions, so review everything carefully.
