Have you ever spied on anyone, or had the urge to? When I was younger I would keep a notebook about people ala Harriet the Spy, but recently I've been obsessed with the idea of actually listening in on people's conversations (especially some coworkers I'm having issues with) by planting bugs or the like. Now I doubt I'll actually do this, but I'm just wondering if anyone else has had such obsessions or experience?

I should also add one incident that got me interested--when I was in college listening to the radio once I managed to pick up my roommates phone conversation on a low frequency. She was talking to her boyfriend and it was pretty boring actually, but I still enjoyed listening, I guess I'm just interested in what people are really like when they're not putting on their social persona.

I do get concerned when people have personality or communication changes (i.e. being secretive when they used to be open, etc.), and worry if something had happened to them, but I avoid spying.

I like to hear what happens with people I like, but not indirectly.

Yeah, you don't want to get caught spying, that's for sure. I guess I just worry about what people say behind my back a lot, like when I feel they're not being honest, then I would just like to know what's really going on.

I have a voice amplifier that's nice for spying. I've got other sorts of gadgets like that.

As a kid I used to be obsessed with spies.

Sure, it's my hobby. Sites like myspace let you check in on people you've known without them having a clue. I'm harmless, I just like knowing things.

As a kid I liked spies as well and had all the "SpyTech" stuff they came out with, even when I had become "too old" for it. ;)

I want to spy on my narcissistic prick coworker who always tries to get me fired. I'd like to know what kind of crap he's always spewing when he goes into our boss' office and closes the door. These closed-door meetings preceded my being passed up for a promotion and them giving it to that prick instead, so yeah I'd love to know what kind of BS he is telling our boss every day. My goodness, I HATE people like that, who will lie, cheat, and steal to get ahead in life and not think twice about it. It makes me so mad.

I get frustrated at work when I think that people are talking about me when I leave the room. I think sometimes it's justified, sometimes it's not, but the thought of planting a microphone does cross my mind. I would never actually do it, but my first thought is that it's the only way to find out for sure. In office environments, the norm is to tell everyone that will listen that you have a problem with someone, except for the person actually involved. Small annoyances turn into big resentments when (surprise!) nothing changes. It bothers me to think that people will hold a grudge against me over something petty that I don't realize I'm doing, but could fix if I knew about it.

I've never thought about spying on my friends, but they're all open enough that I wouldn't need to. With strangers, I'm curious enough to look or listen if something's interesting, but I don't go out my way to do so. Otherwise, I would guess aspies would be more likely to spy than NT's. Most people only say what they're really thinking privately in close relationships, and the fewer of those you have the more mysterious people would seem in general.

I love to spy. Dont ask me why. Like go report to Bob what Sally said etc. When the kids up the fire hall need to spy on someone or be a look out I am first in line.

What kid wasn't???

My brother has done some weird stuff with spy toys he had, I myself was more interested in sheer power rather than the secretive spy stuff. I would rather be an elite special forces person than a spy, more fun, less espionage. I did however grow fond of the idea of spying as I grew older, and learned how easy it was to do things that could be considered spying. I can do some pretty scary stuff if I put my mind to it, and the part of spying that appeals to me is mental games, and outwitting people.

I don't really go out of my way to spy, but if there's an interesting story taking place and I'm sitting nearby, I wont leave til i'm satisfied I know what's going on.

YEAH!! I had the SpyTech voice amplifier. That sure entertained me when I was a kid. Well, when in close range only, really.

Yeah me too.
I buy kids spy toys because they are so cheap, but there's a site where you can buy real spy stuff.
I have the 007 spy camera concealed in a cigarette lighter case. It's poor quality but people get amazed by it when I tell them it's real.

My brother has the sweetest pair of night vision goggles, they actually work like real night vision goggles, only tuned down a bit. They use digital light amplification, they even have IR detection built into them (proved this with my tv remote). Only problem is compared to military models, they are quite bulky, and impractible.

I hate knowledge being kept from me, and it has gotten me into quite a lot of trouble

If I really want to klnow what some person thinks, I extract from them by playing with their mind. I hate doing that, as I think it is morally wrong, but I will do it if the situation requires.
