Do you think that aspies have a higher sensitivity to go into (shamanic) trance. I just want to know why I get so easily in trance after intake of hallucinogenics.
I read that Shamans have a certain neurotic disposition, and I thought autism has to do with the different connection of our neurons in our brain.

I too space out big time and seem to "trance" and experience synesthetic qualities. I think aspies, autistics and people with ADHD can just tap into that abstract train of thought with slightly more ease I guess.

I constantly go into a trance like state deep in thought... Happens a lot at work... My coworkers tend to snap me out of it a lot.

I know such states only when I am under the influence of certain substances, but not normally.

great topic. without a doubt. read some mircea eliade and Joseph Campbell and read some other comparative religious studies in relation to tribal cultures...the practices of the shaman and the capacities of the ASD person can be amzingly similar. interesting that trbal cultures celebrate these powers while the western world psychopathologises them.

this is one of my favourite contmplative areas at present and it reall ylinked intot my painting practice as well.

touche for a cool thread......

But, being a born sceptic, I do not see this experiences as something which has anything to do with an "other reality", but with some chemical short cuts in my brain.

Yeah, aren't they wonderful? :D

Everyone is entitled to believe as they will. Some of simply prefer reality to shamanistic hallucinations and religious delusions, that's all!

I'm Christian, but I still don't doubt that such states of trance exist, I have discovered some wonderful stuff on such states... Most of it being introspection, but a bit of it has been revelations about this world.

shamanism is no religion, has no dogmas like it and not one ritual or shaman is the same...

shamanism is no religion, has no dogmas like it and not one ritual or shaman is the same...

... yet hallucinations are central to its experience, and delusion surrounds its core principles.

I used to be a shamanistic practitioner, astrologer, tarot reader, crystalomancer, séance participant, and have been to a fair share of sweat lodges, "Ghost Dances," and Cherokee spirit ritual ceremonies. And I can tell you from personal experience that it's all no better that any Catholic mass or Episcopal cocktail hour.

Yeah, I saw that in the Bible too. It's Matthew 22:14. I've often wondered why shamans have nothing original to say or any "Holy" writings of their own to quote from.

you can find wise things in many wise books.

I am not religious at all, have been an atheist for 37 years, but when finally I ended up being a channel for entities and and powerful visions (one last weekend where I was visited by Isis, Shiva, Krishna and some anonymous entities) I left that delusion (gods don't exist thing) behind me. I know from the power within that they are not delusions.

I wonder what kind of experiences you had to be that dissapointed and call them delusions
