Hi everyone, I just wanted to start a thread about how being aspergic can bring with it many gifts that NTs don't have. To get the ball rolling

1. Phenomenal long term episodic memory
2. High IQ (dubious, but i'd say people at the tips of the bell curve are more likely than not aspergic)
3. Ability to "hyper-focus" until work or task is completed

I'm simply said "a completely worthless person". I wish i was a more talented person but inplace of that i'm terrible at everything... Sometimes weird things can happen i have to admit that, but hows that going to help me through life >:(

I was convinced of that until college too. Frequently accused of " just trying to sound smart " and my thoughts and ideas set aside as if a child had just suggested it. The best thing a person like myself, and possibly like you, is that intelligence and talent is not necessiarily only measured by grades and socially acceptable standards. Although peoples tactics to put you down can create such doubt and reluctance to try, which is when you feel like you do.

Of course every situation can drastically range in uniqueness, but if it took me seven years to realize that I wasn't bad at math, and that I was just too bored and unreceptive to it's format, then I'm sure with help you can find a way to view your abilities outside what everyone tells you. Find the ones that seem to be fairly good people, because the rest will either be jealous, ignorant, or insensitive to helping you as a person... as many people see only themselves in this world.

Some of my gifts/talents:

1. Phenomenal long term episodic memory (I have memories from when I was 9 months old etc.)
2. Good short term memory when it comes to numbers and pictures (I can read many phone numbers from the phone book and remember them for weeks – people call me rain girl)
3. I read 230-240 words in one minute (reading test)
4. I’m very good at visualizing
5. I can play music almost perfect in my head
6. I’m very good at cleaning and sorting
7. My visual/spatial IQ is 137 ( have only tested this)
8. I know much about different types of pets
9. I’m good at being kind to other people
10. I’m good at collecting things

2. Can also visualize things really well.
3. Can do math really fast.
4. Great with computers.
5. Can pick up small objects with my mind. (Ok, just kidding! :))

I have fantastic long term memory, I have reminded people of things that have happened in the past and they always forget
I often notice little patterns that noone seems to notice, I'm always pointing them out to my friends and theyre like "oh yeah cool"

thats interesting that you guys are saying short term memory. In fact my short term memory is quite bad ( i had it tested as part of a dyslexia assessment) which means that i need to do some academic reading really repetitively before it becomes long term memory.

oh well. you win some, you lose some...

by patterns do people mean visual patterns like in a wallpaper/ abstract picture. or in patterns of people, eg. "everyone here has their birthday in February"

Both, but usually the people one. Sometimes things like events like "we were talking about this the same time yesterday" or "when you said the word yes a car number plate had "yes" on it" etc

yeah i can so relate to the people and events pattern recognition. does anyone else find that their episodic memory causes them to get lost in nostalgia; constantly remembering back to what you were doing at this precise moment a year ago etc...

I’m terrible at remembering names and things I really don’t care about, it’s only in specific areas I have good memory skills!!

wasnt sure if this is only meant for aspies,as topic title says autistic/post says different, but high iq and other parts do not apply to all forms of autism as being standard or common.

in self:
*Artistic.
*Photographic memory.
*Would be great as a home games tester, due to the bugs, details etc needed to be picked out and the need for playing each part over and over again.
*Profound connections with animals.
*Have got MR/MLD but can work a computer well so get asked a lot to sort the software side out for staff or families computers because they know am only charge for a redbull.
*Have got no pain threshold at all [eg,feel no body pain] which can be fun...and not-not when it ends up with KOing self, fractures or concussion.
*Not even realising someone elses differences until told, and treating everything alive-and not,as the same with equal respect, and being able to forget any hate the next day unless its something that has gone on for so long [am see this as a talent judging how hard many find it to understand those different].
