my girlfriend recently picked it up at Borders, and we read the first two chapters together.
Wow, this guy nails how it is for Autistic people; that almost fit me like a T...the only really major exception being that he understood how to interact with people properly at age 9. I'm still basically a disaster at it. The only reason I don't come off as one( I think) is that I don't interact much with people, and when I screw up and do something "socially inappropriate" at work or something, I directly admit screwing up, but in a humorous way, to sorta laugh it off a bit.

I agree, I loved this book too. Not only was it spot-on, but rather funny in places.
John Elder Robison's bother, Augusten Burroughs', memoir 'Running With Scissors' is also very good. I'm reading it at the minute. Very different from John's experiences, but still very interesting.

I'm reading it right now.
It's somewhat hard for me to identify with him because his interests (cars, sound systems) are very different from mine, and also as TheDoctor82 mentioned, he was able to socialize at age 9 which is pretty early; I learned to do it properly at 14 or so.
But I can still relate to many of his experiences.

Just finished reading this last night. Loved it. Especially like the part where he's talking about how his wife has a calming effect on him. I sat there thinking, yep that's exactly what I'm looking for. He also has a blog on the Psychology Today website.

Thanks for the tip, I´m looking for AS books to read, so I´ll put that on my list.
I also watched the movie "Running With Scissors"; I assumed it´s taken after the book? I remember I liked it, but I can´t remember what it´s about...I think I watch too many movies...

mm I liked the 'put a paw on me' stuff because that's exactly what my dogs do.
Someone told me to read this book. I did read half of it.
It's supposed to work motivating, but it's just about a guy that got lucky.
Full of motivational clichés like "I'll show them...".
I guess it's cool when that accually works for some people, but being non-Anglo Saxon I see that book as a piece of irrational crap.
Didn't motivate me at all. I guess it's because i am an overly down to earth cynical piece of (mainland) Eurotrash.
At the same time i tend to frown upon people who do get motivated by such nonsence, they must be easily manipulated. By themselves even...
Neither did I. Despite it's typical attitude of "See? I am just like you guys".
It has a painfully patronising undertone that really pisses me off.
It works motivating on people who lack self knowledge and people who believe in controlled self delusion.
