The Aussie larrikin and their tongue-in-cheek humour is somewhat of an archtype, and to some extent it rings true amongst the general Australian populace.
Quote:
The term larrikin came to be used affectionately of a person who did not always adhere strictly to polite social conventions; a bit of a stirrer. It was used in political contexts as well—used positively as a term almost of endearment. The negative meanings gradually died out completely in Australia, and the larrikin came to be seen as someone who defied social or political conventions in an interesting and often likeable way.

(I don't think either of these following links are inappropriate for the General Discussion forum, but I have noted points that some readers may find objectionable just incase the more sensitive among us may want to skip them)
Here is an interesting article on Australian humour. Well worth a read as it explains what you are talking about quite well.

Generally benign, although there is a picture at the top with cartoon nudity, which might offend some people.
Here are some examples of some rather lewd Aussie humour:

Some of these jokes are fairly dirty, so read at your own discretion.
