I just realized today that often when I am in a place that is too loud, I will close/cover my eyes.

I did this when I was in a room with a lot of people and they were all talking at once and the noise was bothering me.

I don't know why I cover my eyes and not my ears. If a single noise is bothering me - let's say someone is testing a fire alarm - I will cover my ears, but in a sort of general noisy room I cover my eyes.

Does anyone else do this? Or am I a weirdo even among the weirdos?

Makes sense from an over-stimulation perspective; I turn down the radio while driving when I am looking hard for a street or building, same basic principle.

Makes perfect sense to me.

By covering your eyes you are blocking out all the visual stimuli. I also think it's more socially acceptable to close your eyes than to cover your ears.

Mmm, that makes sense.

If I'm over-stimulated, by closing my eyes and blocking out visual stimuli and therefore sort of "freeing up more room" for the audible stimuli that are in such abundance at that moment.
