I never know how old someone is when someone asks me how old they were, unless they tell me. For instance, school psychologist came over and my mother said she was probably around 50 easily without the lady telling her how old she was. Me? I would have guessed 30 if I had to but would have been still clueless.

Anyone else have problems with this?

yeah...i am terrible at it
Also, i don't understand people's point when they want to have their age guessed.

I don't care, and it's none of my business.

Same here. I've learned to a little better over the years, but when I was 16 I couldn't tell if someone was my age or 40; if they had grey hair I knew they were old, If they looked prepubescent I could tell that.

I guess I'm bad at it too.
I always thought you were in your 20's.

I'm really awful at it. It makes all kinds of social interactions difficult because I'll go someplace like a bar and start talking to a guy (yeah, alcohol does that to me :P ) who I thought looked pretty young then find out he's past 40 when he says something.

Or I'll talk to some people I assume are about my age, make some reference to some pop culture thing only to find out they have no idea what I'm talking about because they're all 18 or 19.

I'm also terrible at it. I've sort of learned to guess in very few situations, but mostly I have no idea. Hell, I didn't know if I looked my own age -- I had to ask other people what they thought!

I am poor at guessing the age of others. Conversely, in my experience, others are poor at guessing my age.

Well, I can generally guess people that are younger than 20yo within 5 years. Older people within say 20. A 50yo might have some weathered skin and gray. If I were to guess MY age, I would guess around 50. Most guess about 35. I would be closer, but usually others are closer.

If the person is young, but not a baby, and missing teeth, it is a fair bet they are about 6-7. If a girl is just obviously starting to develop, it is a fair bet she is 12 or older. A boy may be a bit older if his voice is obviously changing. Of course, if they are small, and crawl a lot, it is a fair bet they are under 2, etc....

poopylungstuffing,

They want their ego stroked. Women USUALLY want you to guess low. Some others want you to guess higher.

I am not very good at guessing another person's age.

A bit of useless trivia I picked up: Apparently in Iran people do not ask how old you are. Instead they ask what year you were born, and then do the maths in their heads.

I on the contrary am pretty well at guessing people's ages. I'd never mistake a typical 50 year old for a 30 year old, a typical 30 year old with a college student.

You know come to think of it, I do have trouble with guessing in age... :?

I don't even know what 30 looks like much less 40 yet I've mistaken the 10 year gap many a time. But I think it's pretty normal as I've seen other people do it as well. There are some who happen to look a lot younger than their age, and then there are some who seem to look much older than their supposed age. That's at least been my experience when playing the mathematical test.

Yeah, people always think I'm in my 30s for some reason. I have pretty roughed up skin (always really dry) and don't bother with my hair, but I don't think I look all that much older than 23. Maybe 25 or 26. I dress in band shirts and cartoon shirts and stuff you wouldn't call professional or "mom-like" so I don't get how I look like I'm in my 30s (and no, I won't post a pic). Maybe it's because I don't look like a fake skank like people expect a college aged girl to look?

For my behavior, why they'd think I'm in my 30s... I'm not all gossipy and giggly so maybe that's it. I'm really reserved so that could be why they think I'm older. People have just always thought I've been older. Even when I was only 18, the general consensus was "You're 23."
