I sometimes get depressed for no reason that I start to get headaches. Than as the depression progresses I start to loose memory and can't concentrate. After that I start to loose my breath and have to breath harder. I am at a lost and don't know what is going on. Its like a weird feeling and you feel hopeless and I start to have very very horrible communication and can't think of what to say. I have been taking a vitamin b complex for 2 days and it hasn't worked. What should I do? :?

Try cutting out complex carbohydrates/starches for a week or so. That means bread/pasta/pizza/biscuits, corn, rice, oats, potato etc, and also corn syrups. There is more and more scientific evidence for diet having a huge effect on mood and cognitive function, incl. memory. See my thread "Starch, or the Decline and Fall of the AS organism" ( at : http://www.wrongplanet.net/postt91412.html ) for links to studies etc, or Ephemerella's new thread on the subject of diet and brain function. :)

First of all, two days for a supplement to start working really isn't long enough. Odd question, but is your pee neon green yet?

There are other supplements you can take. St. John's Wort for example.

Also you can try doing 20-30 minutes of cardio exercise every day. Getting your heart rate up helps with depression.

Watch what you're eating; make sure it's healthy. Eating a lot of junk food can negatively impact your mood.

No, my pee is weird some times the color of it is so pale that it looks as clear as water and than some times it it is like a sunshine sort of yellow. Why should my pee become a neon yellow?

Clear pee is good because it means you're drinking enough water, but neon green pee is a sign that the B vitamins are working, or are at least in a large enough supply in your body that they can start working.

Watch out for shallow breathing. Not getting enough oxygen to the brain (and elsewhere) can create a host of distressing physical symptoms. headache and confusion are two symptoms that I get when I forget to breathe properly. When I am anxious I unconsciously tend to hold my breath instead of breathing out freely and completely. Breathe! Fully and deeply in and out from the diaphragm. Also, even though this may seem silly or be difficult, stand on your head for a bit. Get some blood up there.

Also, check out Ephemerella's thread about diet and brain function.

matt you do not need vitamin b complex unless you have some sort deficiency or malabsorption or if you are anorexic. water soluble vitamins, like vitamin B, just wash out in your urine, they have absolutely no effect on you except making your urine very yellow and smelly.

what you are describing is called shortness of breath or maybe difficulty breathing or dyspnea or maybe you are hyperventilating.

anyway, it's probably from anxiety or a panic attack.

now, shortness of breath can also be a clinical manifestation of an underlying physiological problem. but in your case, it is probably anxiety.

now do not take more than 5-10 times of the recomended daily allowence of non-water soluble vitamins - vitamins A,D,E,K - why? because the body cannot wash them out with urine and taking too much can lead to toxicity. on the back of the vitamin bottle you will see numbers like 60% or 100%. 100% means 100% of your recomended daily allowence and you should not take more than 500% - 1000% a day in order to avoid toxicity. many of you who are taking supplements are experiencing the placebo effect. it is also very easy to poison yourself with supplements. so be careful guys, do not take too much.

I typically skip breakfast and just eat lunch and dinner. Whenever i feel like this i normally don't eat anything and i have no type of appetite what so ever. When I do force myself to eat i start to feel sick. But when I don't feel like this i typically eat loads of sweets.

The supplements that I take are multivitamins, omega 3, calcium, and the b complex mentioned above.

I knew a guy with Bipolar disorder who has severe depression episodes and when he was in those episodes he would have massive migraine headaches and his motor skills and speech were slowed significantly. You may have that kind of severe depression. None-the-less a doctor or psychiatrist should evaluate you.

cool just do not overdose on calcium cuz that might make you feel crappy. b vitamins are fine cuz filter out with urine. do not take more than five multivitamins a day or you will get sickie quickie.

A lot of people dont understand that many vitamins are toxic in high quantities. I do not recommend taking anything beyond its recommended amount. As for the panic attack suggestion, yes he might be experiencing the first stage of a panic attack. Having had one myself I can say that it is very, very unpleasant. Depression and anxiety often go hand and hand. Many experts think that they share a similar mechanism in your brain.
