I cannot walk in a straight line. I always veer off. I also have this problem when running, i'll run right into things without realizing it.

Also, I was wondering, how many of you have the "tiptoe" thing, or have ever had it? where people on the spectrum walk on their tippy toes?

I cannot walk with a flat foot on stairs, and when i'm feeling more childish, I start walking with a bounce on my tip toes. It's hard to explain, but it's very distinctive once you've seen it.

I can walk in a straight line, so long as I have my eyes open. If I were to close my eyes, I would fair worse than someone in the advanced stages of innebriation. I believe that this is due to dyspraxia (a spectrum trait).

As per "toe walking" it is common among people on the spectrum. However, I tend to walk heavily on my heels, with my toes dorsiflexed, so that they do not contact the ground at all.

In summary. Both of these traits are consistent with Autism/AS.

I don't toe-walk anymore, but I still put the front of my foot down first when I walk barefoot. In shoes, I'm a little clumsy, with exaggerated movements that use too much energy; but I put my heels down first, the way most people do.

I bet my toe-walking thing is sensory--the feel of the floor on my feet changes things.

I prefer to walk barefoot when I can, though, so it's not an attempt to avoid unpleasant sensations. I guess I just like to know what's coming up in the way of floor texture before I transfer my weight onto it.

I cannot walk a straight line ... never could. I always fear getting pulled over by cops or stopped at a DWI checkpoint and being asked to walk a line!

I didn't toe walk, but I used to run on my toes.

Can't see how anyone can walk up the stairs without using their toes. :?

Walking with anyone, I oftentimes collide with that person. I'd walk off of sidewalks a lot as a kid, always remembered my ankles bugging me.

Just explain you're dyspraxic and ask for a Breathalyzer test; that should stop them from bugging you.

I tiptoed when I started walking. I remember having to wear funny shoes so that I would walk heal-toe.

I still forget if I am walking tiptoe when barefoot. If I consciously observe my walking, it's heel-toe. Funny how that works.

I can walk in a straight line. Sometimes I end up aside.

I thought I was the only one who would worry about that! I can't even drive yet, and yet while making this post I was worrying about that.

I can walk a straight line, do not run into things when I'm looking ahead and I never walked on my toes.

I can walk in a straight line, but only very slowly. Otherwise, I tend to drift towards one side. When I was a little kid my mother used to have to stop me from walking into the street and such.

I can't work in a straight line either... i look like i'm drunk when I walk.. I'm actually quite self concious of it.

also I tiptoe too.

I was wondering, does anyone know the reason why some aspies and autistics walk on their tiptoes? I guessed it was a stimming thing?... it seems that way for me.

I think everyone walks up stairs on their toes- how could they not?

I don't toe-walk however.

Your foot makes less contact with the floor, and your walking is more bouncy.

That's what I have always figured they would have to do... because if they gave me those balance tests, I'd be screwed.

Same thing. When I was a teenager and I would be walking with me "friends" (the 2-3 guys who I thought were my friends, anyway) I would always bump into them or step on their heels. It always annoyed people that I did that, but no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't NOT do it.
