Quote:
A 10 year old girl keeps apologizing for "disturbing" her class. She feels that she is too
restless and is clearing her throat too loudly. Her teachers are puzzled and over time
become annoyed at her repeated apologies since they did not notice any sounds or
movements. She is also preoccupied with "being good all the time".

Did anyone or does anyone have this particular characteristic of OCD, especially in terms of the final sentence. 'She is also preoccupied with "being good all the time"'. I certainly did when I was a kid. I was terrified to do anything that seemed wrong. Often this anxiety and lack of social awareness meant I did 'wrong' things, which I assumed were correct. So can anyone relate?

Yeah, I can relate, especially when I'm at work (selling cigarettes and stuff), I'm constantly worrying that my beahviour is not appropriate, of course this is stressing, I didn't know this was OCD related, thanks for the info, I should use this to try to take things more easily.

Well I quoted the section from a paper about OCD. At first I couldn't see the connection between the two, but it kinda makes sense.

I wonder how many people not diagnosed with OCD can relate to this????

Most people should be able to relate; the worrying about not having been "good" enough is a normal human experience--it's only with OCD that it becomes so strong as to inhibit your ability to enjoy your life.

I took word good to mean, being obedient and not to do things which are considered to be against the general values of those in authority. (Parents, and as in this example teaches etc)

It took me years to understand that I continually cleared my throat. I think it comes from I have a nervous habit of swallowing and my throat gets hoarse and feels uncomfortable. I can relate to that one and I think about being good. I am obsessive about how others see me and I am uptight and will feel guilty about the least little thing.
Yup I can truely relate the more I think about it.
