What's it like to be autistic?

I know it sounds dumb to ask this, but what have your experiences been like?

As opposed to what? Being NT, I don't know, I'm not, nor have I ever been an anything but Autistic.

What is like to be make instead of female, tall instead of short?

If we are comparing, then it's like sitting in a cake shop next to the custard donuts and finding out you have jam!

A lonely childhood. And adulthood too, till recently. Being on my own emotionally, and having no role models. Only very recently had that changed.

It also means being given the gift of not having been tempted to try to be someone I'm not.

I haven't had any role models, I don't feel like I do have to look up to anybody. But getting back onto this threads topic, I really don't feel all that different from people who don't have AS.

Mine:

Like being in a world with people but still being the only one of your kind and even though you're in touch with many of these other people, you never feel even remotely familiar.

Like being the only cat surrounded by dogs.

Like not noticing that you're walking around in a country with people like you for the longest time. And once you learn they're said to be people like you, you walk in a country that's still a foreign one to you and you really never feel comfortable because you do things differently and never at home though it's really fascinating often.

I was once asked this question by my cousin. I told her, You live in the world. For myself, the world lives in me. That's as close as I want to get to a proper description.

Awesome at home, but at school it kinda blows.

Me at home: "Aspieness FTW!"
Me at school: "This ****ing sucks!! !! !!"
