I use to get them real bad before going on klonopin. I notice the triggers seem to be different than with usual epileptic fits. I can sense whenever I'm about to have one whenever there's a lot of activity going on. That's not to say people alone trigger it but it seems to happen when there are too many people at me with demands, conversations, and comments. I don't know if it's a nervous tic or what but I use to go into full blown seizures which was very annoying especially at my jobs.

I still get the tics every now and then depending. I'm wondering if there's other remedies besides increasing my dose on klonopin. I use to try all kinds of meds for seizures but nothing worked.

Also, I had an incident where I was serving hot soup bowls to the residents. I spilled two hot soup bowls all over them as I struggled to set them properly on the table. It seems I have strange or odd coordination problems as well that seem to go along with the tics. Whenever I hold anything heavy and hot, I get shaky and feel like I'm about to drop it. Once the heat spikes me, I have an unconrollable reaction.

Anyone else have this problem or something similar?

I just don't know how to deal with them.

I'm not sure if that can be compared to what you describe, but I've been having hypnic jerks (not the insult; the twitch that feels like falling just before you fall asleep) while awake, at least twice daily, for quite some time now.

I feel strange about it because it must look weird, but also because I remember there was a case like that on House MD where a guy who had hypnic jerks while awake and was immediately hospitalised with some neurological condition.

I haven't noticed any triggering mechanism though, it just happens involuntarily every once in a while.

I have something similar lately. When I'm at home alone I'm fine but it seems that it only takes some people around me talking or some noise to irritate my brain, I wasn't so sensitive before, I really don't know, this week I'm planning to change something in order to make my day even more quieter but if this problem remains I will definitely have to see a doc. I don't know if the meds I've taken for 8 months (Paxil) may be related to this issue (I'm currently off).

i have a few tics and weird twist things i do withmy shoulder and mouth and also my eyebrows.
people think i am trying to look like that kid in the famous Diane Arbus photo - but i am just
being me - and think i am making funny faces at them.

i am doing diaphragmatic breathing to help it, and it reduces them but does not rid me of them. They relax AND tire me simultaneously...like tic compulsions or something.

i do not want medication to normalise me. i want to accept me as i am.

I know anti-anxiety medication (Paxil, Clomapramine) reduce my ability to control my tics.

Yes, I get them. Often, when I'm sitting down, I get shakes and tremors. That's not anything to do with anxiety. They are more like tics. They are involuntary bodily tics where I shake around.

What causes this? Is it a Tourettesy thing or something similar? It's nothing serious and isn't causing me any distress, however I can say I have had them a lot more often over the past couple of weeks.

I've always have hand tremors. It is worse some times more than others. My doctor (thirty years ago) said it was "just a benign tremor". I don't know if it is related to Aspergers or not? It sometimes caused me great embarrassment. As a student when getting my lunch in the cafeteria the tremors sometimes became terrible when carrying my food from the counter to a table. On one particular occasion I had a plate of dinner in one hand and a large glass of juice in the other. By the time I'd reached a table most of the juice had shaken out of the glass all over the floor. Everyone was staring at me.

I've adapted my behaviour to match. When making drinks for people I normally carry one coffee at a time using both hands. People find this strange, but it is better than the alternative... a coffee shower.

One thing I have found, the more I try to stop the tremors the worse they get. If I relax the muscles in my hand a little the tremors also reduce. However, it is a fine balance between stopping the tremor and dropping the thing I'm carrying.

When I was 17 I had aspirations to become a surgeon, but my Human Biology lecturer advised against it after watching my hands during a dissection class.

I coldn't stop shaking last night. I just suddenly woke up shaking. It was a bit cold, but I shouldn't have been shaking that violently. I couldn't stop at first, but then I was able to make myself relax and it stopped, just in time to prevent me pulling a muscle in my left leg and causing intense pain. I think this was due to my emotional pain, however. I did get back to sleep. But I woke up with just as much emotional pain.

Oh, wow, I get those and never knew what they were called, or really that they had a name at all!

I get tremors mostly in my left arm. It's generally not very severe, more amusing than anything. Happens mostly when I'm training in Taekwon-Do. It's very hard to hold targets for other people or perform forms while it's happening.

Dystonia and Parkinsons can cause tremors. Really you people should get evaluated by a movement disorder neurologist. I have an appointment with one in a few days to figure out why I have tremors plus my teeth clatter together.

My boyfriend has hand tremors, has ever since I've known him (about 10 years) and it runs in his family.
He says they are "benign" too, but I noticed this last time, after not seeing him for about five years, that they'd gotten more obvious.

I'm a little bit worried about him.

Yeah, I agree with Ticker: see a doctor. My guess is, if you are on meds, it may be related to that. But even so, better safe than sorry....

I don't have tremors but on rare occasions I get tics, usually associated with physical causes, like muscle cramps from working out too much, or sitting too long. They say low potassium, low salt and lack of other electrolytes can cause this.

Because muscle contractions and other signaling relies on electrochemical impulses, the mineral salts and other charged particles in our bloodstream that are important for proper electrochemical signal conduction, help support muscle contraction.

Most people are deficient in Vitamin D and calcium. Vitamin D and calcium help with signaling and muscle fiber contractions. For example, if you have heart contraction problems a doctor might put you on a "calcium channel blocker". Calcium deficiencies might contribute to other problems. Some peoples' problems with tics are supposedly related to a magnesium deficiency. The low mineral level increases the likelihood that their tics will start up.

Maybe one thing to do is ensure that you are getting enough Vitamin D, calcium and other minerals, particularly electrolytes. Low minerals might not cause your issue, and supplementation might only help a fraction of people who get tics, but it might be an easy fix if it is the problem.

I don't have tics as bad as what you are describing, but I take resperitol and I've heard that and/or similar anti-psychotic drugs can help out with tics. I hope the best for your tics and that you will be able to control them.

Not sure about tics...Hand tremors, yes...not all the time but alot when I am trying to do fine or precise movement with my hands or my movement is focused around using my hands. I can do some precise movement then hold my hands out or hold my fingers in a certain way and they shake alot Not mostly to do with anxiety either because I get them when I am totally alone and calm feeling but being around people if it happens makes it worse when I feel aware of it.

I was scared at times, about what it might be - but it's been that way as long as I remember so I don't think anything is drastically going wrong. I have always been curious about it though.

my teeth clatter too.
I also have periods where i just come out with the word f**k. it is not like swearing as it can come out of nowhere.
I suspect i am on the cusp of some mild Tourettes stuff. And it waxes and wanes and gets worse with anxiety.
if i am, i am sure it will come up in sessions with the psych later on down the track.
