Hi there,

I have an appointment soon to be interviewed by my local National Autistic Society social group to see if I can become a member. I'm really looking forward to it, I'm quite curious about meeting other aspies especially after finding WP as the one thing that strikes me is the familiarity I feel.

Anyway, I just wondered if anyone else here is a member of a similar sort of social group for AS/HFA and what you think of it in general?

Well, my school hired someone to come in every Wednesday lunch time and do a social skills group for the Autistics in my year, but it's mainly just school stuff.

I was a member of the NSAAA (north staffordshire asperger/autism association) and my mum used to go to parents meetings in the weekends.
And I once remember going to a meal organised by them in november 2004 a few months after i was dxed. It was really fun too, and I saw someone I knew from school too, he didn't know me though. There were also cameras filming it, don't know what for but I was waving at the camera and catching their attention lol.

Also at school two years ago I went to SULP, don't know what it stands for but it was some sort of social skills training, it was on every monday 4th lesson for about a few months.

In the US, I've been a member of two social groups. One was in NC. We only met once a month for three years, but we became good friends.

The Oregon group that I'm in has a social skills training class every other month, a recreational outing every other month, and a support group each month. I'm already making friends and loving it!

We don't have to interview to be included here. We just show up!
