Hey, uh, guys, great forum! However, I have a question. Is there anywhere in this forum where I can talk about stereo equipment? Thanks.

This will do for now.
How do you feel about tube amps?

To tell you the truth, I have never heard tube amps, but people have told me that they can sound pretty darn good, but I also dislike them because of all the high maintenance they require when it comes to replacing burnt out tubes. But I have heard good things on how good they sound.

You wanna talk about stereo equipment? Have I got the forum for you. It's all they talk about there, especially the vintage stuff. And speaking of vintage, it's a lot easier to replace a bad tube than a bad transistor or IC chip.

What kind of stereo equipment? Car? Home? Digital? Analog? Surround sound? This place won't be as good as a specialized electronics/stereo forum, but I and several others here are pretty interested in & knowledgeable about that kind of stuff.

Stereokid, You should also try the "Computers forum" located at the Main Forums Board. I would think the aspie their will know exactly what you're talking involving stereos and equiptments and things of that nature.

I've always lusted over the MacIntosh (sp?) line. I heard one once at a stereo shop and the difference was incredible. The difference between tubes and transistors can best be described as the tubes have a sweeter sound. Its a little more full and less harsh. However, they ain't cheap! But a tube based cd player is the height of retro!
I'm knowledgable about electronics through my job, but its not really one of my obsessions. However, I'm very picky about how things sound (more so than my budget will allow) so I guess the 2 overlap somewhat.
My latest project is to try to add whole house stereo, or at least get rid of the CerwinVega speaker/end tables. The house is getting kind of small with a 4yr old around. But in ceiling speakers are like $200 a pop from Crutchfield so I'm thinking of trying to use car speakers with paintable grills. The it looks like the specs are about the same and all I would have to do is some impedance matching.
