Hi everyone. I have aspergers. Now my question is: are you proud to have aspergers? I can say I am. If you want me to say why, then just ask away.

Why? Is there a reason we have to ask?

I am neither proud nor ashamed of being an Asper. It is no more a condition of status than the color of one's hair or eyes, or being born with the ability to tolerate extremes of heat and cold. It is a condition that simply is.

Only this, and nothing more.

I'm me, and proud of it. Asperger's is just a side-effect.

This whole deal of being born with 'aspergers' can sometime be a little weird like the pople who just have a 'little' of it for some reason as opposed to other people who have a 'lot' of it.
I guess it's like other social diseases as having a little bit of Herpes or something.

I agree with this, but..

It is perfectly normal to be proud of you are!

Pride in random qualties about yourself that you had no choice in is silly. I've never understood national pride, or ethnic pride, and I don't understand aspie pride. That said I do think it makes me intersting and I am somtimes glad to have it. But somtimes not.

I'm proud of my accomplishements, skills, and education. Pride of self leads to conceit, which leads to arrogance, which leads to getting one's butt kicked. Allow me what little humility I may have ...

I like the idea of being unique until I am pretending to be normal and I blow the illusion by being ah. . .unique.

Proud? No. As something that significantly affects my ability to function I can't say that I am proud of it. I'm not exactly ashamed because its not my fault either. Its just I can't feel proud because it is one of the problems holding me back. I understand there are some people on the spectrum that aren't as effected by it. That is ok too. Lower functioning people see it differently.

Is that your real dog Millie? What kind is he? He looks like a Jack Russel Terrier I walk by. I would like to pet him but he looks too hyper. I guess its why they call them Jack Russel Terrorists.
