My psychiatrist at university referred me for an assessment at the autism resource centre in glasgow (scotland) almost a month ago. I'm really bad at waiting for letters and information because I get more and more anxious about them. How long does it take to get an appointment, or even just for them to get in contact with me? (generally or if anyone's been to that specific centre). The psychiatrist said a couple of weeks, but obviously it's been longer than that now.

It took about a month for the centre I was referred to to get into contact with me (and it was over christmas time) and then a few weeks for the diagnosis to be complete.
However, for my younger brother the whole process took about 3 months so it really depends on where you are being tested.

In US it can be 12-16 months. So much for our NON SOCAILZED MEDICINE. So much for: "In other countries they have t o WAIT!!"

Try to contact them to make sure your appointment is being processed - a similar thing happened to me with a referral to a psycholgist for anxiety and I phoned to ask when I could find out when the appointment would be and they had never recieved my doctor's letter of referral!

Can't phone to check- my anxiety is too bad. Normally get my mum to phone about stuff like this, but since she knows nothing about it, I can't ask her!

My doctor referred me in December 2007 and it was in April 2008 that I received forms to fill in from the centre. I wasn't taken for an assessment until earlier this month. This was in Perth, Scotland. There could be similar waiting lists in Glasgow.

Welcome to socialized medicine. Are you surprised?

I think it took a couple of months for the appointment to be made and then took about six months for the appointment to happen, for the centre in Sheffield.

You know that some would be unable to get a diagnosis without socialised health services, don't you?

EDIT: I probably misunderstood your post there, if so please ignore my stupidity.
