You know those stupid "image verification" tests to make sure you aren't a spammer? Well I did about 20 of those until I finally got it right. OMG thats the worst one I've ever run across. It had all the misshapen letters and all the colors of the rainbow. Some of those Captcha programs are a drag!! !

I agree! I'm so bad at typing the letters/numbers in time. Captcha is just mocking my slowness! It must be destroyed!

I wrote a blog a few years ago about Captcha when it first started showing up all over the place...from what I gathered in comments, almost everyone hates it as much as I do, including NTs.

Captcha is difficult to work with but spam really sucks too. There has to be a better way to weed out spam- maybe an aspie can solve that problem.

Can't they just make easy-to-read Capcha? As long as the image code does not even hint at what the capcha says, that would prevent a spammer machine from getting in, right?

What Ck said. I don't mind the ones I can READ, but some of them use a bad font, and you can't tell a 6 from a G and things such as that.

A forum we created awhile ago used to ask a really simple question (such as "what's 2+2?") and you had to answer THAT. we got 0 spam accounts.

From what I read, many sites that are using Captcha are moving away from it. Not because aspies don't like it, but because spammers are now coming up with tools that can parse out words from Captcha images. The method you described, solving a simple math problem, is better at deterring spammers, at least for now. And it has an added bonus of requiring at least a certain minimal level of intelligence.

websites do need good anti spam bot protection but those captcha things are discriminative towards people with varying impairments, and also towards people who use screen readers because these are unable to read captcha images-people could probably get them changed under the DDA and ADA laws if the site is based in their country.

tda,
those question type captchas [+] are still very difficult for those with maths problems or learning disabilities.
am find have to ask others to fill them in and same with the normal captchas.

riverotter,
that would be nice if someone could come up with a better answer, one that's easy enough and accessible to humans and not the spam bots at least.

I hate those stupid things! They should make them so humans can actually read them, they always put it in such a bad font! WTF?!

DeLoreanDude,
calculators dont help if are not able to recognise numbers and/or understand symbols and meanings, LDs/Lds differ so much, some are able to use a calculator to help with their difficulty, but others would not be able to get as far as using the calculator.
it means people have to get others to help but in a way,it removes some of the independance they have by having others fill in the captchas/questions,some people am know on a disability forum [who are severely VI and use screen readers] do not have anyone else to fill in their captchas so they really struggle with a lot of sites.

I don't usually mind them, but sometimes I do take the option to get shown a new one because I can't be sure of one or more of the letters.
