I don't want people to really know what kind of music I like.
So that they don't judge me.
When ever my parents walk by my room I turn the audio down, and I don't like to listen to music in public.
Anyone else like this?

Usually it's the same way with me, I don't want them to know what kind of music I like or I'm not sure how they will react. I don't want them to judge me just for that (for what kind of music you like... thats a terrible bias)

I feel better if the other people there are playing there music and were all just sharing interests, then it kind of eases the pressure and makes the situation easier to deal with.

I'm the opposite. Most other people can't stand listening to my music. But it's fun to see how they react to it.

I'm the exact same way. In fact, I don't even like watching TV or seeing movies with other people, either.

Me too. I feel embarrassed if anyone hears me listening to music especially as I like to turn it up fairly loud. I rock and pace to it too so I wouldnt want anyone to catch me doing that.

I'm the opposite. I try to convert them.
"How could you not like Thursday? Are you insane?"
"You've never heard of Fugazi? Have you been living under a rock for the last 10 years?"
"You should listen to Cursive, you'll really like them."

By the way listen to those bands.

I play my music really loud and I name drop just to see if anyone knows who they are.

I'm just the same. And there's me thinking it was just me.

I'm the same, but moreso in the past. It's not as bad now, though it's still an issue. I'm working on getting over it.

I'm the same way; some of the music I listen to is not mainstream and is "different" so I listen to music on my ipod that only I have access to. I keep my ipod volume low enough so no one around me can hear it. Luckily though, my ipod is pretty good at preserving sound.

Wow I thought I was alone with that ! I'm 23 and still try to overcome it with a little bit of success...

When I have to listen to a song or watching a movie I love with someone I come to ask me inside why I love it, thinking this song or this movie is finally bad ! 8O I think it would be much different if I had a special interest for music.

Yea. I hide my CD's in my closet. I have this issue where I don't feel like sharing my music with my dad because I fear that he won't like it. My dad doesn't know much about music beyond the 80's and I don't know how to describe to him what more modern music sounds like. I fear he only likes old stuff so I don't feel like sharing when he asks me what I listen to.

I'd be a little more comfortable sharing my music with friends who are my own age group but it just doesn't occur to me. I usually just defer to what other people want to listen to.

i live with an ipod attached to my brain.

i do not care who knows about me and my music although when i was a shattered and shy and troubled and very depressed undiagnosed Aspergers/autistic girl in my youth, i was very very scared of criticism and so i concealed a lot for fear of ridicule.
I tried to conceal my taste in most things actually, music included.

I can remember that with excruciating pain.

NOw as a diagnosed and ageing old autistic i just live as i please. it may look weird from the outside looking in, but i am far happier than i have ever been.
