I'm way more social. But my obsessive interest IS learning. I can see that some autie/aspies just don't give a flying fük for what goes on. Others have cognitive impairments that inhibit understanding of the NT social world that may or may not be autie/aspie related. Others may have the autie/aspie sensory overload to the point that even acknowledging people just ain't going to happen.
Never saw rainman. It is stupid to me. I guess, to me, it is an NT movie and doesn't explore anything isn't... duh... what do you expect they'd do. That and I don't do scientology flicks.
