with none aspies?

It sometimes feels this way to me. Back in December we had snow, a foot of it and up to ten feet of snow drifts. When I went to my first aspie gathering in January we talked about our experiance with the snow. I was very surprised how well we all handled it. We didn't freak out or get all upset, act like it was the end of the world while all these other people in the city panicked over snow and were rushing around freaking out over a few inches and I was just hearing about it on the news and laughing about it. So it was like we were the NTs and they were the aspies. I said at the aspie gathering they all had AS and everyone laughed. I guess they all got the joke and knew I was kidding.

Another time I was chatting to my online friend and I told him how I was on the bus one time going to work and this homeless man gets on the bus and sits right next to me. He stunk really bad and I wanted to tell him "get away from me you stink." But when the seats opened up when some people got off the bus, I moved to another seat away from him. My online friend told me lot of people wouldn't do that and I asked him why and he said because they think they wouldn't have to. I told it's like we switched places. They are the aspies and I'm the NT because I am the one being flexible by moving to another seat while other people would rather stay in the seat and b***h and moan about a homeless person sitting next to them as if they have AS because they were so inflexible about moving to another seat when there are some open.

Sometimes it feels like I have wasted my time overcoming that aspie trait of inflexibility (hard work it was) so my life be a lot easier and I be able to hold down a job not get fired in the future but no I see all these other people who don't have AS acting like aspies. Or maybe they all have AS and I don't even know it but no that's the normality who would refuse to change seats just because they were there first my online friend says.

Actually, it sounds like you're exhibiting Aspie behavior and the NTs are being NTs -- no one's "switched places".

In the case of the snowstorm, you and your fellow Aspies were thinking logically, so you knew that there was no reason to panic. The NTs were listening to what was being said on the news (which is almost always blown out of proportion so that they can get better ratings) and picking up on the anxiety of people around them. You, being Aspie, weren't as affected by the emotions of those around you.

In the case of the homeless man, you again did the logical thing -- you didn't like how he smelled so you moved away. Most NTs would be too afraid of hurting his feelings or appearing insensitive, so they stay put.

I've also noticed that most NTs like to complain -- if you offer them a solution to their problem, they won't utilize it.

Just because you're Aspie does not necessarily mean that you're always going to be ill at ease -- sometimes you will be more capable than the NTs. And vice versa.
