At the doctors' surgery, my blood pressure is usually high. Mr Dr gave me a pressure tester to take home and test myself at home, which was then usually normal.

I was wondering whether others test high at the doctor's surgery (due to anxiety levels?). Blood pressure is usually tested after the dr has wanted to chat/small talk and then ask about what ails me.

Wouldn't elevated blood pressure in that situation be "normal" for such situations (especially when tested at home on an electronic unit I get a lower reading).

I am curious if anyone else has a similar experience.

My blood pressure is always high. I take blood pressure medicine to get it down, and even at the high dosage that I take, it's still fairly high. Even back when I was an avid runner, I ran 7 days a week and for over an hour on some days... my blood pressure was STILL high. Everything else about my health seemed great, but the blood pressure would never go down.

Mine's low, but I have hypoglycemia. My mom and grandma both have it as well.

Pressure's on topic

My blood pressure used to be low until I was 45, and then it was at normal levels.

mnay women my age have high blood pressure and are on medication for this. I keep mune normal with diet and weight control, and activity.

Being nervous at the doctor's office can make the pressure rise. :(

What pills do you take? I take an iron pill every day but it hasn't helped much.

It was very high, but I have been taking my avalide and I am at a low normal range now.

I think it's normal or else the nurses would have told me it wasn't.

I don't know what a "doctor's surgery" is as opposed to a regular surgery but, when I have appointments with the general practicianer, the nurse always gives me the blood pressure test before the doctor comes into the room.

Last time they checked it was about 4 months ago, and it was 108 over 66. They typically call that "good" so, don't know which way to vote in the poll.

Wow, so many low blood pressure answers are recorded.

I have severe orthostatic hypotension, need to be medicated basically at all times or I faint. Supposedly it heightens sensory issues, because your body releases adrenaline in an attempt to raise your blood pressure back to normal.

120/130 over 60/70 is the norm for me in the doctor's office, where I'm usually in a state of panic.... I'm sure it'd be lower when I'm not as anxious.

All doctors I've seen have said mine is fine, so I'm guessing it's normal (I've been to a cardiologist for AVNRT, so I've had it taken many times).

DON'T BET ON IT!

I think mine used to be low, and was normal SUPPOSEDLY until perhaps a few years ago. I exercised about an hour ago, but HERE is one I took a few minutes ago:

148/68 55

55 is good. I remember in health class in highschool where a person was lauded for having such a low pulse, because he was "obviously in shape". I was too embarrassed to say mine was 50, because everyone elses was in the 60s!. 68 is apparently good. Supposedly 90 is the cutoff. 148 Indicates stage 1 hypertension. Supposedly, the cutoff is 140.
