When you watch the video, which side do you focus on? I watched it twice, and I look mostly at the right side with the man right side up. It says that there's socially relevant info going on on the left side of the screen, but I'm not detecting it, however typical developing toddlers do. Interesting.

(I have to say a big thanks to Master Shake for bringing this blog to my attention in another thread. It's an awesome blog!)

I had no idea what to look at.

If the article hadn't said so, I wouldn't have figured out that this was patty-cake. It looks like constellations playing catch. I ended up watching the lights that seem to indicate where the experimental subjects were looking.

I found myself watching the clapping hands almost exclusively - in fact, I had a hard time recognizing anything else. I did glance about the screen at the upside-down images occasionally, mostly just to see if there were differences. I think there were, but I couldn't be sure. I can't even imagine what they mean by 'socially relevant'. What's socially relevant about clapping and bouncing lights, other than the clapper calling out someone's name?

Bottom right-hand corner.

= developmentally delayed child, I think it was.

I was also the bottom right hand corner. (Developmentally delayed child) I looked mostly at the left person but sometimes looked at the right.

I think that I misinterpreted what the video was supposed to be illustrating. Oops. I think it was trying to demonstrate where the autistic children looked vs typical/developmentally delayed children looked.

Still, I cannot for the life of my figure out what the 'relevant social stimuli' is supposed to be? The hands clapping is the biggest focal point, to me.

I looked mostly at the clappy 'hands'.
I liked the voice though, lol.

I didn't understand the socially relevant thing either... I watched the video again (keeping in mind both characters) to see if I could find anything but, nothing.

I focused almost exclusively on the three dots that were supposed to be shoulders and the clapping hands which met just below said three dots.

I also mostly watched the bottom right. I didn't watch the hands, though, I watched the bright ball that was darting around.

I think :?

Now I want to be able to go back and watch it without having read this thread and having preconcieved notions lol.

Oh duh! that's what that is!! that means I have to watch the top left to see where i look and then compare it with the others.

Makes more sense. Let me try again.

*edit* Well I find myself looking back and forth between the two images and focusing somewhere in the middle of their arms.. could be the head? Not sure. But I also find myself relaxing my eyes and just watching the pattern of dots moving around in sync haha.

What does that mean?

I did that too, I saw them more as moving dots than people.

Just follow the bouncing ball topic

I followed bouncing balls and lights, or at least I tried. Very confusing about what was going on. Poor test study kids. :(

lol... did the same mistake... started following the dots, until I realised what was going on. Then I read the text underneath the videos, and got it!... The saw it again and I looked at the video pretty much as the "Developmentally Delayed Toddler" did... that was the closest hit I got. (Love that leg in the end :P)

I looked at the upside down clapping hands on the top right. I didn't even notice until after the second viewing that figure was upside down. Wonder what that means...

I could see immediately that the left-hand image was a person, but I found myself watching the right-hand image more because it drew my attention more upside down - as if it could be some kind of animal hanging from a branch or some such. I found myself trying to imagine what sort of animal it could be. So I don't know what that signifies - that I do register people 'normally' but there's little about them in general that holds my interest?

I fit the autistic child. I stared almost entirely at the right side. But I don't think that's AS, necessarily. I prefer looking to my right than to my left, something I just recently noticed. It's kind of odd, too, because I'm left-handed, so one would think that I'd prefer looking to my left side. Anyway, I thought the pattern of moving dots on the upside-down figure was more interesting to look at than the jumping-up-and-down figure. Maybe because it was a new pattern, not a posture I'm used to seeing? This makes me doubt the study's validity...
