I think boredom leads to my anxiety and smoking. I have nothing to do all day, since I'm on SSDI. I'm about to make a phone call today about volunteering for an organization, and then I'm going out to a place where I could take classes on some days, at no charge, since I'm disabled. They have things like Tai Chi and knitting.

I just reached a limit the past two days of being bored completely out of my mind. I was just sleeping for something to do.. most of the day. I hope this new approach works.

I don't feel boredom.

Whether it's because of the interest that provides my mind with constant amusement, or I don't feel the emotion, I don't know.

If I have a special interest, its in designing wargames. I've kinda grown out of it, but I could entertain myself for considerable amounts of time when otherwise I would be bored out of my mind.

Haven't you ever heard the phrase, "an idle mind is the devil's workshop?" We all need things to do to keep our minds busy...whether one works at
a job or lives on Social Security Disability. If knitting interests you, sign up for the class. I taught myself to knit as well as crochet. Visit your local
library and pick up some books that interest you. Develop an interest in something you like to do. Take up bird watching. Learn about the stars up
in the night sky and look for the various constellations when they appear...the "Big Dipper" is the easiest! There are thousands of enjoyable things you can do with your time...just sit down and figure out what it is that you would like to do.

Best of luck to you!

Thanks for all the interesting ideas. I did go to the library today and I checked out two books, one called, "Asperger's in Love."

I also went to this center where they have free classes and free use of an alpha-stim machine. So, I'm planning to go there on Monday.

Tomorrow, I have a two hour art class, so that should help. I spend SO much time just sitting around my apartment!

Let me just tell you your videos are very inspirational, thorough, and explain quite a lot for me and my friends & family to understand me better.

That said, I can tell you I don't have time to get bored; if I'm not at work, I'm seeing my girlfriend, talking to my friends, working on my retail website, or doing more business research.

I'm lucky when I get free time. :D

I am rarely bored these days. I do so much on online, or house chores or going for walk that I haven't got time to be bored.

Boredom eats away at me. I have a job, but I only work 3 or 4 days a week on average, so there's a whole lot of spare time. There's absolutely nothing to do where I live but eat - and I'm actually trying to cut back on that at the moment. A lot of high schoolers hang out at Wal-Mart, if that tells you anything about the excitement of my town. :P

I sleep a lot to pass time as well. But if I absolutely can't sleep another wink, I'll usually listen to music (I've been doing this for the past 5 hours or so  ). I also like to take long drives. I kind of consider it a hobby.

I passed a supermarket and saw some teens hanging outside it. What a boring life they lead. I just listen to music, go on the internet and walk through through town. Sometimes I go see concerts in the city. But I'm never bored.

I once heard that some philosopher said the only real sin was to tolerate boredom. I wish I were brave enough to live up to that. Mostly I guess I do, but often at work I let myself get trapped by employers. It's hard to avoid, I guess they'd have a valid grievance if I just walked off every time I felt the work they gave me was too dull for me. After all, they do pay me. On the other hand, maybe it should be up to them to balance the work so that I was making better use of my skills - it's hard to be bored if the work is moderately challenging. It's when it's too easy that I get bored. And sometimes it's boring when it's THEIR nerdy idea they want me to do the donkey work on. I love working on my own nerdy ideas but other people's nerdy ideas only go down well with me if I happen to feel I can relate to what they're up to.

I'm a bit of a coward when it comes to getting away from people who aren't being interesting to me. I don't like to hurt their feelings so I kind of stick around wishing I wasn't there.

When I'm free to follow my own ideas, mostly I'm fine, especially with the Web to hand so I can get an answer to any question that occurs to me, find out how to do practically anything. Sometimes I just get a block on creative thinking and don't feel like making any progress, so I keep a few recordings of films and TV programmes around for those times, just to pass the time until I'm ready to get active again.

I don't easily get bored doing repetitive, nerdy things (on my own terms), like analysing my expenses in ridiculous detail, and cataloguing my huge collection of videotapes. I've achieved some near-miracles there, but I worry a lot that I'm letting "real life" pass me by if that kind of thing starts consuming a lot of my time. I'm usually reluctant to start anything like that, because I know that once I start, I could be stuck there for a very long time, and I'm not getting any younger.

Does anyone understand why people hang around at places like shopping precincts? :?: I mean, even if you liked just chatting for hours and not really doing anything, surely there must be more pleasant places to do so?

And you wonder why I say the whole socialization thing is so incredibly overrated?

Wish I knew. I once saw more than 2 dozen teens hanging outside a phone box, lol.

If you want a cure for boredom try adding a few more websites to your usual list. I go to so many forums. When I'm bored I get house points for Gryffindor. This is my profile: http://www.the-leaky-cauldron.org/mylea ... _spectacle (Gryffindor are currently in the lead).
So, if you get bored join a special interest site.
Or develop a new hobby. I bought a book to record my best memories. I keep forgetting to add to it though.
Or start collecting things. Or play some music. Join a site last last.fm that shows people what music you play and recommends you new music. Get into video games. It's a bit of an expensive hobby though.
There's so many things I could add to the list.

Buy an XBox 360, get all the stuff to get online and play video games.
