I edited my post. Now I hope it is more easy to understand it.

How do you feel when the words "obsession" and "interest" are used?
Does it sound annoying to hear that you have an "obsession"?
Would you prefer to hear that you have "interests" instead?

1. These are my obsessions: watching football, artificial intelligence, whales.

2. These are my interests : watching football, artificial intelligence, whales.

The first sentence is better because it makes you sound ill!

Well, one could be obsessed about ones interests, but you could also have obsessions that are completely unrelated to one interests.

For example, I'm interested in many things - crochet, Routemaster buses, environmental science, birds, animals, lots of stuff. But I could also be obsessed with counting buttons, without having much of an interest in buttons. Does that make sense?

I don't like my interests being referred to as obsessions because they're not. This could be me being pedantic about use of language, but still, that's the way I feel.
