Hi, my drivers license expired March 14th. I went to DMV to renew once but they didn't have the ability to take photos at the one i went too, so I decided to go back later. By the time I went back my license was expired over 30 days so I needed a Social Security card and a bunch of other stuff.

Now I have to go to the social Security Administration to get a new Social Security Card so I can renew my drivers lcense and I CAN"T DO IT. My mom won't be back till July and I have to be able to figure out how to do this on my own.

I am starting to freak out writing this post, why can't I friggin' do something so simple!

Can you explain what the problem is specifically? Then maybe I can help. Is the process of getting a new social security card too intimidating? (I´ve never done it, so I don´t know). Or do you not know how to get there? Or do you feel immobilized for some other reason? More details would help, to get a better answer...

I know I´ve had a lot of problems myself with these irritating red tape-ish cards, licenses and certificates. I dread it when I have to renew my work Visa (I live in a foreign country). For several years, I worked illegally in one country because I had so much trouble going through the process of getting the Visa that I got frustrated....

You could go to the Social Security website (sorry cannot post link here) and get an application for a new card mailed to you. You have to have a form of ID with the application when you mail it back in, but it doesn't have to be a drivers license.
But the drawback to that is that it takes weeks to recieve your new card in the mail. Or you could call the SS Administration and request a new card, but I don't know about the ID thing in that situation, or how long it takes.
1-800-772-1213 is the number. Hope I am allowed to post the number. :?

All that stuff is a nusiance so that's why I never let mine expire. When Mine was about to expire in 2006, I got it renewed before it happened. Now my current one won't expire till 2014 so I won't let that one expire. I would just go in, take a number and sit down and wait till my name is called. Then say I want to renew my lisence and go from there. Every state is different so I don't know if you have to retake the test to renew it or just pay again to renew it and that's it.

You can actually go to the local SS office and they can give you a form that will act as your card that you can use to get your license even before you get the card which takes a few weeks.

Whoa...wait a minute! If you need a new Social Security card, you can simply do that on the internet. Just go to the website for the Social Security Administration...WWW.SSA.GOV

It is so much easier to do everything online these days, especially with your disabling, paralyzed condition now.

Best of luck to you!

I've done it before, just go to the Social Security Office, tell the clerk that you need a new card, they will give you a form to fill out and a number. Go fill out the form and wait until your number is called, then go up to the window and they will take care of it.

It's a pretty simple straight-forward process that shouldn't involve any info you don't already know. If you don't have everything you need, they will tell you what you need and where to go for it. Bring an iPod or something so you can zone out while waiting.
