I love doing research reports but I loathe essay questions. With essay questions, you must always think about what the teacher wants to hear rather than what you feel is accurate. You can use all the statistics in the world but if you deviate from the teacher's opinion, all hell breaks loose.

That's why I don't like english. If you give 10 different professors the same essay to grade, there is a 20% chance that they all would give you the same grade.

I understand where you are coming from. Also, you have to get your info from credible sources. Sometimes, you find strong arguments for your positions from sites that your professor might forbid.

I was a history and political science double major, and went to law school...so I love essay questions.

It is not always about writing what the teacher wants to hear, most of the time it is about conveying knowledge on the subject matter, and even possibly adding in perspective different from what the teacher wants to hear.

I did pretty well in english to in college...

I was raised by two English professors, so I always did well in writing. I made A's in any English course. I don't think teachers are biased towards any one perspective.

In fact, when they grade Junior English Exams at the college where my parents worked, they have three people read the paper and they average the score. If one person deviates a lot from the rest, they aren't invited to score anymore.

However, once with a "fill in the blank" test, I wrote the "correct" answer, followed by "if you want to see it that way" on every line.

I hate writing essays, while weak and stupid teachers might mark a person down for giving an answer which they "do not like". I think that the majority of teachers will give credit to an essay even if it argues a point of view which goes against their own as long as it is well written and clearly expresses the arguement.

I always hated them because I had a hard time puting the answer in writing.

I hate them when they put unusual demands.

I once took a course where the exams consisted of writing two essays (using all of our critical thinking might) in a span of 75 minutes. Which is ridiculous, because we only have time to starting writing. Very little time for critical thinking. Topics like copyright law, and allocation of pollution emission quotas.

It depends. I usually do alright on them because I love writing. Sometimes, I blanked out in college and forgot facts. I was grateful when classes let us use reference material during the finals.

In one of my college classes, our final was writing a lengthy term paper in class comparing two works of literature (one classical, the other modern) but it was cool because we got to bring the books with us (some used Cliff Notes but not me) and could use them to quote from.

One thing I hated with a passion was typing but now I am pretty good at it. My hand/eye cordination was so lousy typing used to give me this tense feeling in my head and cause me a lot of anguish but after getting the internet my typing abilities improved something like 500% and I don't look at the keyboard nearly as often.

I can say without a doubt typing is the most difficult thing I have ever achieved proficiency at.

I don't have a problem with history or English essays but when it comes to classes that are more emotionally charged, such as sociology, the teacher is much more likely to to mark you down for deviating from his or her opinion.

The only thing I normally hated is essay questions on timed tests. My writing is slow and, after a while, physically painful. I often needed extra time on tests with essays. Other than that, I always got good grades on my writing.

But I do loved doing literary analysis for my English classes; it was one of my favorite types of assignments.

Yup. I hate how I am supposed to flesh things out into so many goddamned words. I'm the type who will distill things to a set of basic hard facts, and put those in a logical order...but they want to me use loads and loads of words.

I love writing essays. The world is too complicated for a, b, c or d

This.

All my parents and support teachers have said I get the facts down and everything they asked for in the question but because I didn't take 6 pages to do so I get a poor grade.

Essay questions are stressful, you have to answer that question in many paragraphs, which is not easy. I've got a test in 2 days and I'm pretty sure I've got a kind of essay question in that test, I'm not looking forward to it.
