Cats are totally ridiculous creatures and so fickle -- don't get me wrong, I love cats ! They cannot be told what to do, but must be asked, and convinced (usually when you let them purr in your lap or scratch their bellies). They defy all control. They love their freedom and roam far and wide. If you give them their freedom and show them your love, they will come to you every time and give far more love than they receive. They don't always know how to look out for their own best interests, such as when crossing busy roads. And, among my favorite cats I remember was one of my father's co-worker's cats, named "Futz," as big as a Corgi, who upon being brought home, used to terrorize my father's girlfriends if they were anti-cat: he would perch up high above them and wait until the right moment, at which he would spring flying down on them all claws out to attack their stockings ! But never to those he knew loved cats. Funny creatures, the cat.
That is why I prefer cats to dogs. Cats are their own people (in a manner of speaking). They do not live to please others. They are my kind of people.
