Hi. What do you think/believe about money, or how do you feel about it? I find the ethics surrounding it very confusing. I don't know if it's ethics that causes the confusion, or the abstract nature of money. I would like very much to hear your thoughts about the topic of money. Thanks.

For my part I do not have any difficulties to understand the abstract idea of money and why I can get goods for fancy pieces of paper, I do have more difficulties in handling my daily finances. Even I know very well that I had to be careful when spending it, I need to force myself to handle my person money reasonable.

one side of the earth would fry,
an' the other side 'o' the world would freeze,
because money..........

Money is almost but not quite a special interest of mine. One point I would make is that it is now made up from human imagination. Others could be royalty, parking regulations, The Simpsons etc. It used to be gold, shells or whatever from the physical world. But physical reality and the fractional banking system can not exist together. Money as it is now is a tool of social control used by governments.

I always thought that a simple barter economy within very small, localized populations would be ideal. Basically, I don't think humans should have moved beyond tribal groups.

I am not good at managing money. I'm not in debt, but I have a hard time sticking to a budget, and I miss paying bills sometimes. At least I'm a smart shopper (most of the time). I don't buy crap that I really don't need. The only exceptions to that rule would be alcohol and plants. I drink to alleviate anxiety, and in true asperger-form, I obsessively collect plants to add to my garden. Could be worse, I suppose.

I support the barter system wholeheartedly whenever practical. It's the basis for all economy, and it works surprisingly well.

Money cant buy you happiness, but it can buy you a jet-ski, and just try and be unhappy on one of those.

Yes, money does not buy happiness. I have learned that already! But what money does is give you less stress and more security!

All I know is money is survival and without it, you cannot survive. I wish it wasn't like this but it is what it is.

It is an irony, because money gives you a false sense of security and actually builds a dependency on that very thing that should be providing the security. In all actuality, fortunes dwindle, currencies collapse, and things generally change.

It's actually: For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. [1 Timothy 6]

I understand what you are saying but you need money to pay your bills, for your food, for your mortgage/rent... if you know you have money to do that, then knowing that provides the security you need. However, I agree.. if you believe money is power for the ego, then it's definitely wrong and will not provide the happiness that you long for.

So many are so miserable because they let acquiring quantities of money run their lives. I'm lucky enough to make enough to get by, so I am able to use it constructively in ways that benefit my interests (which are relatively inexpensive compared with other hobbies).

Ah, "filthy lucre". It's very annoying and hard to keep the value straight. I have a clear memory of getting the huge candy bars for $0.50. Now they cost over $1.00 each! $1.00 is supposed to get me THREE regular candy bars or two of the big ones. Because the past is pretty clear, I'm ALWAYS having to readjust my thinking when I'm purchasing something and everything always seems too expensive.

I'm horrible about spending money, I just keep it all locked away and live minimally with bare white walls and no decorations. I still don't get why people put pictures on walls. I mean, maybe I could deal with one or two photos of one or two people with whom I am really familiar, but a wall full of faces and eyes GAAAAAAAAHH! No. Besides, I remember them clearly enough that I certainly don't need some lousy 2D photo from a set angle. I like photos of me because I don't look in the mirror all the time and I can't see myself from other angles. But filling your home with photos of yourself seems bizarre to others and also narcissistic which I don't want to convey because that's not WHY I find photos of myself interesting. I'm not like, "Whoa, check out my rump, baby. Dang, I gots me a hot rump <squeeze>". No. Although I must confess, I did have a hot rump at 20  . For a time when I was in my 20's I put up a bunch of Ansel Adams and "landscape" themes. They were a horrible distraction at first until I got used to them. Also, I totally couldn't see the point of having them there, but if I was going to be entertaining young females this seemed to be necessary to reduce my 'weird' factor.

Gah! I totally went off topic about money there. I guess I like the concept of money, but not the reality. I don't really use it for much.

I was always taught that a man who masters his money has no master. I live by that and am almost to the point where I will be able to walk away from working.

money is fuel. You need it to do certain things.
you don't need it to do other things.
