It ain't agoraphobia if you go out when you've got to go out...it's related though.

I was completely homebound (not even outside -- which sucked, I love going out and playing in the forest -- big backyard) for a few years. Now and before then, I go out when I need food or to see a professional; or if I follow my mum to the retail shops to get some exposure therapy.

Only when needed.

No but I had social anxiety pretty bad at one point. This is kind of similar. It depends on your reason for not going out.

I had a couple of years when I was afraid to go out mainly due to lack of practice as I wasn`t going out to work, could order shopping via internet.
In the end had to force myself to walk round the block just once everyday, I got a dog which made this easier.
If I have a couple of days at home now it is more effort to then go out. I don`t know if it is agrophobia or just that I get used to the stillness of inside whereas traffic and people move fast which is scarey.

I'm agoraphobic, but that's actually to do with having a phobia of heat. :? I know it sounds quite stupid, but one day I just overheated from not taking a heavy coat off when I was feeling too hot (I thought it'd look weird to take a coat off when it was snowing), and ever since then I've been terrified of overheating again. Now I don't go out for fear of overheating from walking too much or being in a hot building, and I'm even more nervous with this weather. :(

I go through 'phases' where I am quite agoraphobic - usually when my depression is really bad or when I am not on appropriate medication.

In general though, my main problem in this area is social anxiety and problems with sensory overload.

My mum thinks I'm going to develop Agoraphobia because of my SAD. I only go out to uni and even then I have to be dropped off right at the building and picked up when I finish because I can't get public transport. I am trying to reverse some of these problems though and I'm doing alright in some areas.

I have social anxiety apparently. I used to not go out for a week or so, but people always made me in the end even if it involved carrying me kicking and screaming out of the house. I get days where I will not go into shops, but I am sure I can always now if I need to, I just choose not to if I am very stressed- I hate people staring at me for stimming.

I dont like all the movement when i go out , cars and people whizzing past , I feel very vulnerable .I also get very tired after a walk and quite often have to sleep for several hours afterwards . I was wondering if it could be an aspie thing or just totally unrelated.

If it is fear about going out then is SA. If you’re not that bother about going out then its not. I'm a bit of both. But if you worry about people looking at you for stimming, that’s how SA builds. I can realte. I stim in my head with numbers when I'm out.

I like going out to the places I know, so things that are regular in my routine. This includes walking around the parks, going to the library, going for a bike ride, or even going to the supermarket when I know it's quiet. I like any of these because it's time to myself to just be me, and I try not to worry about anyone looking at me oddly for doing stimming type things. I also like going out for day trips to museums but I like to carefully plan the day a few days in advance and it does make me a bit nervous, but I know I like museums once I'm there.

I don't like going out to busy unknown places. I want to see Spiderman 3 which comes out today but I can't make myself got o a crowded cinema, so I'll wait a few weeks I think. Also I hate busy shops which is why I'm not good at buying things like clothes for myself.

I have anxiety problems, especially because I'm so easily overstimulated. The best public places for me are quiet. That's probably why I go to Borders bookstore all the time. The fact that I like to read so much is completely irrelevant. ;)

I don't go out much except to work, when I have to shop, or of course to walk my dog. Other than that I'm basically just in my house. I generally don't like/hate shopping. It takes something out of me. I need to come home to recharge after I've been out.

I'd really like someone to hang out with though :(

I hate going out, if it was for me I would live underground where nobody could find me.
