Imagine you where alone on a desert island and you could only take three things with you to survive for 4 weeks what would you take and why ?

1. Chocolate because it keeps me happy and it is yummy
2. Toilet because i am not going behind a tree
3. Dog because he would keep me company

1. A square meter of 6mm dark colored plastic (water).
2. My tinderbox kit (steel box with flint, cottton wool, charcoal)
3. My "good" knife.

If I could, I would bring a very thick book too, like the Complete Works of Shakespeare or War and Peace. I could wrap it in the plastic and smuggle it in.

I would bring:

1-My machete, to hunt, cook, prepare shelter. It's the swiss army knife of the year 1800!!

2-An emergency med-kit, to help purify water, treat wounds or sickness. Also because morphine when you are in a deserted island is fun! (JOKING)

3-A magnifier glass, to make fire.

Water I can get from plants easily, food I can hunt it or eat some plants (the roots that grow near springs or small courses of water taste horrible but are edible). And I can occupy my free time improving my shelter.

PS: I DO have a machete, although it actually belongs to my dad, he wouldn't mind me 'borrowing' it for my survival =P

I would bring:

1: Plenty of Iodine (It is essential to survive and few foods have it, plus it purifies water.)

2: Tint and flinder (Or something similar to make fire. Fire will allow me to cook, keep warm and keep animals away.

and 3: If a dog constitudes a thing, then so would another human. Another human could help me hunt, cook etc. It would also keep me from talking to volleyballs.

Andertheaspie: I disagree, a dog can't reason and can't do most things humans can do.

Supahneko: A box with everything you need, now that's a clever answer!! :wtg: :wtg: :wtg: :wtg:

Why thank you, however you misunderstood what Ander said, he said that if someone could take a dog then he could take a person to help him

What I tried to say is that a person is not a thing, that doesn't count.

1: Iodine (good one Anders)
2: Hatchet
3: Valium (for those especially hard nights)

...On an island, fire would be relatively easy to make from scratch, given the assumed abundance of bark shavings and trees, a rock, and my hatchet.

1) Water Proof clothing.

You can never predict the weather 100% accurately and if it rains for an extended period of time and you stay wet, you might die from hypothermia.

2) Fully supplied medical kit.

You never know what might happen to you on the island and what hazards will be there until you arrive there.

3) Swiss Army Knife.

Depending what tools you have on it, it can save you from potentially life threatening situations.

1 Katana, not just a small knife
2 A big ball of string, very handy you can even make fires with it and make bows (given that theres wood on the island)
3 A water proof tent

If a dog is a thing then so is a human. I wouldn't normaly describe any living creature as a thing, but the original poster did and so I think it is fair game.

If I were to follow my own definition of "thing" however, then I would bring an axe for cutting down wood to make a shelter with.
