I have several RP ideas and they won't leave me alone until I start one up... so:

1. The World Ends With You RP

or

2. Digimon RP

or

3. Kingdom Hearts RP

or

4. Sci-Fi fantasy RP set in an alternate universe (which the plot has yet to be made)

I do reckon a RP set in space with hand-made characters would suit everyone well, as long was we were all reasonable with what ships/items we all possessed.

My players have four choices for their characters:

1) Hand-roll their own, following the house rules that I provide. This takes up valuable game time.

2) Select from a stack of 'orphan' characters - ones that have been abandoned by former players. This is the quickest, but may not be very satisfying for the players.

3) Select from canonical pre-generated characters. Such selections are subject to my approval and modification.

4) Bring in their own characters from other games. Such selections are also subject to my approval and modification.

I also provide players with equipment lists and opportunities. It is up to them to role-play the purchases and to keep track of their character's finances.

I googled 'Gandesha' and received a lot of returns having to do with East-Indian citizens or expatriots. Will you please provide a link to the 'Gandesha' that you mentioned?

Ones the list of characters, the other is the actual rp, another is the FAQ.

If I want magic in science-fiction, I'll read Star Wars again.

To me, the ideal SFRPG features extrapolations of known scientific principles, and only the following gimmicks:

- Faster-than-light travel.
- Gravity control.
- Portable energy weapons.
- Psionics (maybe).

And exclude the following:

- Time travel.
- Alternate Probabilities.
- Magic.
- Psionics (maybe).

It's called "hard" Science-Fiction. "Soft" Science-Fiction is also called "Fantasy".

I have decided on an RP (finally)... I shall do a Kingdom Hearts and a Legend of Zelda one. Why? Because they are the only ones I can create a plot with. I might do a Super Smash Bros. too IF I can come up with a few ideas. *Sigh* This is gonna be tough...

Anyways, do you know what would also be cool though? If we had one of these RPs:

Shadow of the Colossus
Okami
Folklore
Final Fantasy Tactics Advanced
Bionicle
Transformers
.hack
Full Metal Alchemist
Monster Princess
Ico (if possible
Gundam

In my experience, RPGs derived from video games or anime eventually disappoint. True, they're interesting for perhaps the first half-dozen turns, but then each player comes to the conclusion that the game environment is not adhering to each player's concept of the genre.

A while back (1997), there was a table-top RPG called "Big Eyes, Small Mouth -- A universal Japanese Anime Role-Playing Game" by Mark C. MacKinnon. I have a 1st-Edition copy, signed by the author ("Mark Maci 1997 05 19"). The rules are very simple, and each character has only three stats:

- Body: Health, Strength, Endurance, Speed, Rate of Healing, Dexterity, and Constitution.

- Mind: Psychic power and comprehension of complex ideas.

- Soul: Essence of Inner Self and Willpower.

Each stat ranges from 0 to 12, with 0 as hopeless and 12 as god-like.

The book itself is 96 pages long, including adverts and character sheets. The games are easy to set up, but the stories are up to the ref and players. There are two basic story types:

- Character Driven: What happens in the next scene is determined by the characters' actions in this scene. This is common in epic story-telling.

- Plot Driven: The characters are channeled from one scene to the next at the direction of the referee. This is common in video games.

Which type would your game be, Local_Outcast?

Ummm... definately not one with stats... ^^;.

It's actually both: character and plot driven. I usually like to give the player a little sense of freedom in writing while trying to focus on the main plot at the same time. This way, everyone wins.

I enjoy running RPG's that are both open-ended and character-driven. This means that the characters are presented with several choices, that they can uncover several other choices with a littl investigative inquiry, and that they could even invent their own choices, as well!

Those games where the characters can get to 'Act 1, Scene 3' only if they first complete scenes 1 and 2 (in that order) are too much like a video game ... enter level 1, defeat boss, take treasure ... enter level 2, deafeat boss, take treasure ... enter level 3 ... et cetera, ad nauseum.

I also prefer playing in person, rather than over the Internet.

(Sorry to double post)

*Sigh* Well, that didn't go nicely... oh well. You win some, you lose some.

Anyone up for a Transformers or a Smash Bros. RP? Soul Calibur? Original idea I've had my mind on for some time?
