Banned because I am too hungry for this conversation.

What do you call American biscuits then? Surely you've had them at McDonald's, such as in this popular number with sausage and egg?

I'd call it a 'burger' or a 'muffin'. On McDonald's menus over here, that item is listed as a 'Sausage and Egg McMuffin'!

A muffin?!

Is your McDonald's using English muffins instead of our biscuits? The taste and texture is completely different between the two. Furthermore, according to my husband who is good at baking, what Americans call "English muffin" is our own bastardization of your crumpet. And then we have scones... the rarer "popover"... and many here would be surprised that a "Yorkshire pudding" is not a sweet gelatinous affair.

Chocolate pudding:

A "burger" is a meat patty, usually made of ground beef and served on a bun, in which case the whole sandwich is also called a "burger." But do we even mean the same thing by "bun"?

I guess this whole conversation would be better situated in the "U.K. or England?" thread, but I'm out of time at present!

Banned because we're fresh outta condiments.
