I was thinking about MMORPGs (Massively Multiplayer Online Roleplay Games). I think it's funny because I play a few of them but none of them really religiously. There's never one game that just captivates me so much I have to be playing it all times. And even when I am playing them I never join any guilds, I never make a team with my fellow players, I never try to interact or make any friends. At the same moment I am trying to just go through the game and level up my character and stay off the radar at the same time I'm wanting people to think I'm cool and want to play with me. It's like, stay away from me but worship me too. Okay that's an exaggeration but you get the idea. But what I'm wondering is how many of you, my fellow wrong planet denizens, play any MMORPGS, and which ones do you play, with what attitudes do you play and how do you interact with the other players. I'm just really curious.

Well, I doubt I'd ever pay to play a game I've already bought. So things like WoW are out of the question. I'd give guildwars a go, but I haven't had the time to ut into it for a while now. And I haven't had the money to buy a game in a long time, let alone upgrade my computer to be able to run the newer ones.

I am sorry I don't know what guild wars is but I am with you 100% on the WoW thing. I mean it looks fun enough and only half the world is playing it but I am not paying to play anything. But there are a lot of similar games to WoW and Everquest that all that is needed is for you to make a free account and download the clients. I've done that for Rappelz, 2Moons and more recently Maple Story. Personally I prefer Maple Story. It has kind of an old school SNES feel to it and plus the other characters can't kill each other which I really like. I tend to be an easy target for higher level warriors. But yah paying for games like that is just not for me, I stick to the freebies.

This reminds me a little of myself. I suppose this is slightly unrelated, but for some reason I decided to join Second Life, and yet when I go on Second Life I don't want to talk to anyone! I like flying through all the various places and putting outfits together on my avatar, and it's also nice when people compliment the avatar, but I rarely actually have a conversation with anyone. 8O I prefer standing amongst groups of other avatars with my giant floating oreo, staring at people. :D

I've played a lot of MMOs, the only ones I ever stuck with for any significant period of time though were Ultima Online and World of Warcraft. I know people speak against paying for games, but when a gamer picks up WoW, he saves money because he stops buying other games.

I usually join a guild in such games for the sake of being in a guild, but I'm usually silent in such guilds beyond a hello when I join or log on =P Partying is a necessity in WoW so it's something I've done frequently, but again, unless our party leader has no clue what he's doing I try to just do my job and ignore everything else. Can't be good at what I do and be chatting at the same time.

Right now I'm MMO free though. Don't have the time to sink in anymore.

Yeah, most MMO's have the little problem of FORCING you to group with people to enjoy end-game. That and kind of forcing you to end-game to get into any really cool stuff. Drives me absolutely insane.

Of course, I could sign the virtues of my favorite game endlessly. I'll spare you the reading unless you wanna know. If you wanna know, ask me. :P If you don't, don't ask me. I take things pretty literally.

I guess im kinda like you when your playing an MMO cdr, i dont really try to make friends and i dont really join guilds, but i do like to level up. Sometimes not making friends though can make you not want to play the game, because it gets really lonely.
As for the MMO im playing right now, that would be WoW, although i may be quitting soon, im not to sure.

It's not strictly speaking a MMORPG, but I play NeverwinterNights on the persistant world City of Arabel. It's a roleplay server, which gives me a way of getting some safe and meangingful human contact by roleplaying a character along with other people who are also roleplaying. Actually talking to the other people behind the characters is possible but not obligatory, so I can let my elf paladin do all the socialising for me whilst I'm safe behind a screen.

If anyone else is on the same server, I'm Elrilia Le'tendel.

Ahh... good ol' NWN persitant servers. I used to be a minor DM on Avlis(now part of CoPAP) for those who've ever heard of it. Too much BS wound up going on though, that and I had a REALLY crappy dialup connection while I was stationed in iceland, so I quit.

City of heroes is the MMORPG for me. It has teaming on all servers which means that I have at least some contact with the rest of humanity via teaming up with other people who are also in the team, therefore my level 45 science blaster can do all the talking, whilst i'm safe and sound behind my compy. And if anyone is on the same server as me, you may know me as Doomreaver.
