so that's what it feels like to be in a facist monarchy....
I was expecting more flags and eagles and swastikas...
We have a lot more Eagles then we need. At least our money looks cooler now.
Excuse me while I flee to Iceland.
Barring the whaling, Iceland would be a good choice. I would like to learn the language. It is apparently closer to Old Norse than Norwegian (bokmal or Nyorsk) Swedish or Danish. Finnish is completely unrelated, barring loanwords: it is amongst the few surviving European languages not a member of the Indo-European super-family, whereas the other Scandinavian tongues belong to the Teutonic/Germanic branch of the Indo-European family. Basque is another, though it is not related to Finnish or any other surviving language. Sorry about this diversion. Tolkien knew Icelandic, Finnish, Welsh, Old Norse, Spanish and of course Latin and Greek. He also invented languages. I realise that you detest Tolkien, Flagg, and hope that you do not mind this further diversion even more.
To return to the thread topic - the United States of America and my own nation Australia may be taking some steps that give cause for grave concern, but I am not sure how plausible talk of Fascism is - it's actually rather insulting to anyone who has suffered under a Fascist regime. Still at the time (in Nazi germany or Fascist Italy)people may not have realised how their freedom was being erroded either.
