Maybe you've answered this before Skilpadde, so sorry if this is redundant, but was there something that led you from animals in general to turtles in particular?
I like the idea of imagining your floor of a building floating away and becoming a boat.
You’re saying that as though there is any other way to go about it?
Well, I always thought turtles were cute; I was only 7 when I begged and nagged my mother for a turtle piggy bank (is it a piggy bank if it’s a turtle?) in our local grocery store. I didn’t need it per se, I just thought it was incredible cute. I still have it, it’s on my book shelf. And I still think it’s cute.
There were two pets I wanted for parts of my childhood, a turtle and a guinea pig. The more I read about them and the more pics I saw of them, the more I wanted them. At age 12 I did get a guinea pig, Shalom, and he was cute and lovely. I guess maybe having one goal fulfilled made me more eager to have a turtle as well. At any rate, the wish to get one just became stronger from that point, as did my interest in non-pet turtles, and about 2 years later turtles had become my special interest (not that I knew that term back then). Woo-hoo, that means that next year I can celebrate a quarter of a century of turtle love!!
The more time I spent reading about turtles, the more I liked them. They just appeal to me. But I can’t pinpoint any one thing that led me there. When I finally got my turtles as a teenager, I was on cloud nine. And I stayed there. The two pet turtles I had the privilege to know, only perpetuated my love for turtles in particular. Turtles are just so fascinating and cute and so much fun.
I never stopped loving animals in general, they will always be an interest and their welfare will always be something that’s very important to me, but they aren’t a special interest. Some animals are more to me than others, but none of them are like turtles.
Glad you liked the daydream I shared
