True that. What did you find, Krabo? Has it been classified already?

That could be. And with Rasputin's powers, I think it's safe to assume he wasn't entirely gone. He's probably a revenant.

Rasputin was a Russian 'mystic' who lived from 1869 to 1916. He was successful with the ladies and had strong influence at the castle, especially with tsarina Aleksandra Fjodorovna, wife of tsar Nikolai II.

Boney M had an awesome hit called Rasputin. It rocks! :D

Rasputin had two daughters.....one disappeared; was possibly sent to Siberia.
The other emigrated to America, had an adventurous life, performed in the Ringling Brothers' Circus, and died in Los Angeles.

Really? It seems like that's something a lot of kids think about at some point, but I skipped that part of childhood.

At one point I thought it would be good to be a gypsy though, going with your family from place to place, never having to deal with school or the same people for long. Learning the family trade and move about, no strings attached.
I also wanted a houseboat and I thought Noah (with the Ark) had a good deal, what with being there with family and a ship full of animals. Sounded great to me.
I even had daydreams when I was in the middle of elementary school that it rained so much that we got flooded and our flat (4th floor) started to sail, leaving the rest of the building. We sailed to my grandparents' flat and tied them together and went in and out to each other's homes at will. It was just us and our pets and we never saw any other people ever again. I loved that daydream when I was about 9 or so. I didn't stop to consider that flats are so not like boats and wouldn't float or sail. It was a precious escape daydream for me.

At 10 I became obsessed with the Sami people (Norway's indigenous people). There was a kiddie TV series called Ante about a 10 year old Sami boy who hated having to go school and just wanted to herd the reindeer. I could so relate to wanting to get out of school and spend all my time with animals and family. so I dreamt about that.
Anyone seeing a pattern here?

Maybe you've answered this before Skilpadde, so sorry if this is redundant, but was there something that led you from animals in general to turtles in particular?

I like the idea of imagining your floor of a building floating away and becoming a boat. :D

Moomingirl is an interesting name. Did you ever clean under the fridge?

You’re saying that as though there is any other way to go about it? :? :P

Well, I always thought turtles were cute; I was only 7 when I begged and nagged my mother for a turtle piggy bank (is it a piggy bank if it’s a turtle?) in our local grocery store. I didn’t need it per se, I just thought it was incredible cute. I still have it, it’s on my book shelf. And I still think it’s cute.

There were two pets I wanted for parts of my childhood, a turtle and a guinea pig. The more I read about them and the more pics I saw of them, the more I wanted them. At age 12 I did get a guinea pig, Shalom, and he was cute and lovely. I guess maybe having one goal fulfilled made me more eager to have a turtle as well. At any rate, the wish to get one just became stronger from that point, as did my interest in non-pet turtles, and about 2 years later turtles had become my special interest (not that I knew that term back then). Woo-hoo, that means that next year I can celebrate a quarter of a century of turtle love!!

The more time I spent reading about turtles, the more I liked them. They just appeal to me. But I can’t pinpoint any one thing that led me there. When I finally got my turtles as a teenager, I was on cloud nine. And I stayed there. The two pet turtles I had the privilege to know, only perpetuated my love for turtles in particular. Turtles are just so fascinating and cute and so much fun. :D

I never stopped loving animals in general, they will always be an interest and their welfare will always be something that’s very important to me, but they aren’t a special interest. Some animals are more to me than others, but none of them are like turtles. :ninja:

Glad you liked the daydream I shared :)

@kraftiekortie - thanks. I'm a girl who likes Moomins. And no, I didn't, but I will at some point.

@Skilpadde - I liked your story too, and I wanted to be a gypsy too. I worked as a temp for many years and moved a lot, so maybe close enough. And I still want to join the circus 8)

Here's some interesting abandoned places for those of you who like them:

Wow, it's cool that we had the same wish when we were children!

I think we would have been good friends. Apart from the fact we were several countries apart and didn't speak the same language. :P

Sheesh, the little details! :P

Haha, that reminds me of a song we sang in music class in 3rd or 4th grade. We went through songs about kids in other cultures, and in one of them a Chinese girl talks about an imagined meeting with a Norwegian girl:

Vi kan jo leke litt og smile mens vi tier
we can play a little and be quiet while we smile

I always thought that sounded so dull! Just sit around smiling? And how could you even play with someone you couldn't communicate with? So, how about it, you think little Moomin and the Skilpadde hatchling could just sit there and smile while being quiet? When I was little, my mother translated cartoons on Sky for me while I waited impatiently. Maybe in your scenario she could tell me what you said and I could stand there impatiently and sigh and say: "what's she saying? What's she saying now?" That sounds like fun! :P
