Russia keeps provoking other nations. They have their fighter planes fly too close to civilian airliners and fly close to other nations' borders. They're behaving like rebellious teens. You know, the real reason Soviet fell was that their economy was in ruins. Now they're doing a little better and so they wish to expand their empire again, as we've seen in Ukraine.

Despite the cold war, things were safer and more stable in the 80's and earlier. There were two blocks, where both understood that if they attacked, they'd be wiped themselves too, unlike a certain alcoholic president who opened his atomic briefcase because of an erring science rocket. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norwegian_rocket_incident
And there was no Islamic terror threat in the west. I really long for the good old days and the world we had.

Gad I wish I could have seen that! There is mention in the news from time to time that 'debates' in the Duma ends with fighting, so I guess they still throw tantrums!

Irony: We live in in an Expanding Universe but most of us live on speed dial with a metaphysical shrink!

Dear Skilpadde,

I Googled 'Kruschev Pounding Shoe' and got that the incident happened October 13, 1960, and that he was actually

screaming at the Philippines delegate.

There are tons of pictures of this....him screaming, holding an upraised shoe....looks like a big, middle-aged baby

throwing a tantrum, holding a rattle!

So dignified, for a world leader!

very dignified for a world leader! That's what makes it so ridiculous and funny.

I Googled it and according to Wikipedia, the photograph of Kruschev with his shoe is faked. someone took a photo where he has his fist raised and added a shoe to the image.
According to Wikipedia he may or may not have done something similar at another point
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shoe-bang ... commentary

anyway, it just makes me wish to put a pacifier in his mouth!

Krabo's not a Krabby, Krappy person.

And he's a Mickey Finn, too!

Agreed. I always quite approved of Old Brezhnev. The problems started with Gorbachev.

Perhaps Krabo is meditating in a Tsashouna under the sea, and watching Russian submarine silently glide by the windows.

I did not mean to, but the 'User Control Panel' will not let me put my dormouse back as my avatar......they say that he is too big.

I am sad now.
