I hope all is well with you (and everyone here).
I've got a lot of stuff going on here at the moment. It is going to go one of two ways, either things will slow down in the next few weeks, or they will get very hectic indeed. Time will tell.
We are in full New Zealand Spring mod, which means torrential rain, gales and thunderstorms. Looking forward to dry weather again.
I had a very nice summer, filled with board and card games, DVDs and other nice times.
The last week or so has been somewhat stressful with too much going on, none of them positive, but things have calmed down now.
The most “exciting” thing that happened was a (very small yet scary) fire. It was the first time ever that I experienced a fire, and I can live very well with never seeing one again. We were having pizza (frozen pizza, as always) and I was gonna put the second pizza in the oven. The baking shelf was already in and I was putting in the baking paper when I saw a light. I was confused since there is no light that far down. I stared at it, then I suddenly realized that the paper was on fire. I quickly turned around and threw it into the sink. I was just thinking that I should turn on the tap to make sure the fire was doused when the flames shot up in the air. In just a second they were about to reach the cupboard over the sink. At that point I panicked and just started shouting for my dad, yelling somewhat hysterically: “It’s burning! It’s burning! It’s burning! It’s burning!“ Luckily the paper burned itself out and the flames died down without the cupboard catching fire, and he turned on the tap to extinguish the glowing embers. Those few seconds were real long. I thought maybe I should slap at the flames but I didn’t see anything suitable. I thought I should run and get water, but I didn’t dare leave the fire.
For days I had flashbacks where it didn’t turn out so lucky; in those I would burn my fingers, or a piece of the paper would fall off and either put the stove or the floor or my foot on fire, or the cupboard caught fire or I had my arm over the paper in the sink to turn on the tap when the flames shot up.
I’m still apprehensive about the stove. In all my years of using stoves, I’ve never before experienced a baking paper catching fire. It really startled me.
Let’s hope it will slow down for you! Stress no good.
Will you please send Sylkat some of your rains?
