Harrison Ford has a species of spider named after him, Calponia Harrisonfordi

There's also Pheidole Harrisonfordi, which is an ant.

Harrison Ford used his carpentry skills in the movie "Witness." Don't blink, or you might miss the scene where he is helping Amish farmers build a barn.

the Mercedes benz 560 SEL used a citroen-sourced hydraulic suspension and [along with its descendants] is considered to be the smoothest-riding car on the road.

The Mercedes 560 SEL is considered by MB fans to be something of an Edsel. The factory refuses to make replacement parts for it, even though they continue to make parts for models much older.

The engine was quite remarkable.
(I should know, I owned one for a short while.)

No need to be envious old chap.
I picked it up cheap, and made $600 USD by re-selling it.
Not exactly a small fortune.

my dad had a 1960 190E that he could not find a carburetor for, anywhere in north America. seemingly it was only that year that had the rare carburetor.

1960 is a bit early for an MB in the States.
That was probably before the Interweb. I remember those days. had to source parts out of want ads in newspapers, and a handful of magazines. I could sometimes get my hands on a copy of "Hemmings".

consumer reports tested various E and S class Mercedes benz autos and determined they were the best riding [most effective at filtering out road bumps without wallowy handling] cars one could buy for any amount of money.

Ah yes, those were the days ....

MB was the King of luxury autos. Now the field is very crowded.

but if you value absolute ride quality, they still have the edge over all the competition. my dad's 300D felt like a rolling bank vault floating over raised railroad tracks. it was utterly unflappable. every other non-MB car I've ridden in felt insubstantial in comparison.

1975 300D, as a teen back in 1975. have not ridden in any new benz but consumer reports continues to rate them atop the heap in terms of absolute ride quality. talking about the luxury sedans and not the sports models.

If I do say so, the older ones had a certain luxurious quality about them. Probably due to the hand assembly and finishing.
