a lexus just does not have that same level of bank vault solidity and heft. "substantialness" is a made up word that fits. never any squeaks and rattles even over the worst bumps/potholes. like they were made of a piece.

That certain Germanic obsession for quality, you know.
At least, that's what I chalk it up to. As far as I know, it was MB that the cliche "doors shut like a bank vault" was coined for.

all the cars I've ever owned were comparatively harsh rattletraps. money sure smooths the rough edges off of life. anyways, back to the obscure factoids, on an automotive theme at least- the 1975 chevy Monza v8 had one of the smallest [262 cu. in. ] and lowest horsepower [110 BHP] v8 engines of any modern car up to that point, and also it was so poorly designed [engine was shoehorned into a small chassis engine compartment with its roots in the chevy vega] that oil changes had to be done at the dealership with one of the engine motor mounts removed to get at the oil filter.

Cream style corn is made from any corn that does not pass inspection for frozen or regular canned corn. It may have too high or too low of a moisture content, or the field may have too many corn bore worms in it. The company has already paid the farmer for the use of the field and they don't want to throw the corn out. They make the corn by adding flavoring and grinding up the corn so it is more uniform.
I worked at the corn processing factory and never eat canned corn, especially cream style.

File this one under the 'Older Than You Think' department:
Rap battles have been around since the 5th century. ‘Flyting’ was a ritual in which two people competed by exchanging insults in poetic verse, similar to modern freestyle battles between rappers. The insults were very provocative, and people often accused each other of cowardice and sexual perversion.

Terry Pratchett, the sci-fi writer who just passed, was quite prolific.
He wrote 70 books, over a span of 44 years, those books were translated into 37 languages for a (up to now) sales of 70 million copies.

Hats off, gentlemen, a genius....

john wayne, during filming of his last movie ["the shootist"] was nearly replaced by George C. Scott due to Wayne's precarious health, as he missed many days of shooting due to health concerns.

The water flow of the Atlantic Ocean into the Arctic is 10 times greater than that of the Pacific Ocean into the Arctic. Most of the Arctic's outflow also returns to the Atlantic.

there is a free digital radio service that piggy-backs on top of regular AM and FM broadcasts, this technology is called "hybrid digital in-band-on-channel" or "HD radio" and comes with vastly improved signal quality compared with most fringe or deep-fringe/urban reception conditions- no multipath, frequency response out to 20k cycles, no audible hiss on weak signals, plus the benefit of sub-channels offering different program material, up to 3 subchannels per station! and for the first time, low-noise high-fidelity stereo AM in America is provided by HD AM broadcasts that have none of the noise of regular AM broadcasts. HD radio broadcasters are nationwide, just requiring the purchase of an HD radio set.

Diamonds aren’t actually rare or valuable; they’re the product of one of the most successful ad campaigns of all time. De Beers once claimed a man should spend a month’s salary on a diamond ring as a marketing strategy. It worked so well, they raised prices and restricted their supply, creating an illusion that generations of people still believe to be a mandatory part of the marriage process.

Enzo Ferrari realized in the 1960's that he needed the capital of a large corporation to make his automobile company a true success. He negotiated with Ford, but broke off the discussion when they told him he would no longer be in charge. Instead, he turned to lowly Fiat, whose management assured him that as long as he lived, he would be the commander of the great ship Ferrari.

Ford, in a spiteful move, did everything they could to build a Ferrari beater. Thus was born the Ford F40, which was named for it's height in inches.

the same auto executive who sold Deloreans also [when he was a GM executive] greenlighted the much-cursed chevy vega.
