The scene that the group overheard brought to Guinan's mind the day the Borg came to destroy her homeworld. It was hundreds of years ago when she was a young adult, but she would never forget.

The mechanical beings known as the Borg function with the intelligence and amorality of one collective mind and will. When the Borg came to Guinan's homeworld of El-Auria, the Borg collective mind was singularly focused on assimilating the planet's resources and people, turning them into Borg drones that would join the collective.
Guinan recalled the chaos as her world went to pieces around her. She and others had tried a variety of weapons, but they would barely get a shot before every Borg in the collective adapted and became resistant to the weapon.
Guinan had been unsuccessfully trying to shoot a group of oncoming drones from behind a huge pile of rubble when she heard a loud thud and a man cry out in pain. She dashed out, not considering her own safety as she recognized the cry. "Dad!" she shouted, but when she saw him, she knew he could not answer. Blood dripped from a gaping wound in his leg, and there was a huge bump where his head had crashed against a door jam. It appeared to be friendly fire from one of her people's beam weapons, but the shooter was nowhere to be found. Terror coursed through Guinan, as it was up to her to drag her father's unresponsive form through the crowd.
She darted in and out of crumbling storefronts, behind doors and under debris as she made her way toward one of her people's escaping ships. She had several close calls, but she managed to get her injured father to safety.

To Mike, Guinan just said, "People are not always who they seem to be," as she continued her ascent.
(OOC: Sorry if my poetic license has offended any fellow Star Trek fans. Lillikoi, awesome idea to create that mysterious little scene. Well done.)
