The inspiration for Barbie was the doll version of a high-end call girl from a German comic strip. The Bild Lilli doll was a popular ‘50s adult novelty, but eventually caught the attention of kids - including a young Barbara Handler. Her mother then bought some in Europe, created a new doll for children, and named it after her daughter.

Ironic.

Half a century later in 1997 the makers of the Barbie Doll (Mattel) sued MCA records for "damaging the Barbie brand name" by releasing the hit "Barbie Girl" by the Danish Eurodance boy-girl duo "Aqua" with its suggestive lyrics like "you can take me everywhere, and undress me anywhere".

The judge ruled that it was fair use, and advised "all parties to chill"(in those words).

But apparently (from what you're saying) all that the singers were doing was...returning Barbie to her X-rated roots! :)

Samus Aran was given the Morph Ball feature in the first Metroid game because the developers were having difficulty animating her crawling under ledges.

Watching Spongebob Squarepants when you were a kid may have damaged your brainpower. A study found that watching just 9 minutes of Spongebob had an immediate influence on kids, attention, memory, and problem solving skills.

^ Whoa 8O

Model Angelea Preston, who was a contestant on America's Next Top Model, was disqualified from the show in its 2011 "All-Stars" season in the middle of numerous rumours. She alleged that she had actually won the competition, but did not disclose the reason for her being stripped of her win until 2014, when she said that it was because the show's producers learned that she had worked as an escort in the past. She sued the show's presenter, supermodel Tyra Banks, for $3 million.

yep. having watched that show before i think that would have been a pretty....big departure in tone.

there were characters written specifically for the beatles in the 1967 jungle book film...though they didn't want to act.

Ya it probably would have struck a little too close to home for some people.

Obscure fact: the fashion of women wearing big, thick, red lipstick is designed to exaggerate the lip's natural resemblance to the swollen lips a vagina gets when it is "in the mood". It is the human equivalent of a Chimp's rump swelling. Think about that next time you see a woman with big red lips!

On a related note it is currently believed that boobs evolved, not to nurse babies, but to resemble a butt, to basically serve as a sexual symbol equivalent to the female Geldea Baboon's chest markings.

same could be said for many other things. :P i would personally classify johnny test as a very toxic biohazard, what with 190 whip crack sound effects in one single particular episode. (that is an obscure fact).

Axe body spray once shut down a school because the 6th grade boys produced such an excessive stench that 8 kids had to be hospitalized.

Claymore comes from the Irish Gaelic words for great sword.

Ford's model Pinto failed to sell in Brazil. The company found out that this was because "pinto" is Brazilian slang for something that a male has. I'll leave that up to your imagination.

The Ben & Jerry’s factory in Vermont has a graveyard where discontinued ice cream flavors are “buried.”

Around 600 AD the Chinese would take slaves and lash them to huge kites, and then force the slaves at sword point to walk off the ledge of a high tower to see if the slaves would fly.

History's first recorded attempt at hang gliding!

The main character of the Nicktoon Rocko's Modern Life, Rocko, was originally ment to be yellow. But at the request of a toy maker he was changed to a tan color. The toys, however, ended up not being made.

Some of these things sound more like urban myths made up to scare or gross people out, but at least I have a good excuse not to wear lipstick or mascara.

- An alligator can't move its tongue.

- Alligators don't chew their food, they just swallow it.

- Apple seeds contain cyanide. Fortunately, the amount is extremely small so don't freak out if you swallow a seed or two.

- Watermelon seeds are high in fiber. And of course, swallowing one will absolutely not cause a watermelon to grow inside your belly.

- Swallowed gum will not stay inside your stomach for seven years. It cannot be digested, but you'll just poop it out later.

- Any part of a potato that's green, including the tuber that people eat, is toxic.

- There are more germs and bacteria in an average household kitchen sink than there is in a toilet. It's mainly because most people are more concerned about keeping a toilet clean because of, understandably, what goes down it. But most people never think about all the food particles and junk in their kitchen sink. Gee, it's a wonder I didn't get horribly sick a long time ago!

- Making ugly faces all the time will not cause your face to permanently freeze that way. It's just something parents say to make their kids stop doing it. (Although that might make some kids want to do it even more!)

- Too much oxygen is not good for you. That's why you get light-headed when you hyperventilate - your body is taking in too much. And breathing pure oxygen will kill you.

- Beavers never bite their own testicles off. This is one of those Canadian myths that will never die. :(
