^ I mean it's just a bit nerve-wracking to think about the whole process of how people're going to gather in this small dot(S.Korea) from all over the world..even though this small peninsula wouldn't be sunk by the weight added, I feel slightly dizzy. You know that S.Korea is small indeed - about 1/5 the size of California.

I see. What is Pyeongchang? Looks pretty small. Lake Placid was smaller.

Looks like they also beat out Germany and France to do it.

^ Pyeongchang is just a sleepy county .
In this map, the blue colored county is Seoul, and red colored one is Pyeongchang.

^ More elaborate plz. I didn't get what you meant. If it's related to Olympics or Sports, I have almost zero background knowledge.

^Sorry, Germany and France also made bids for the 2018 Winter Olympics and lost to South Korea.

Why would they pick there then?

^ LOL I don't know.

I actually have no idea of what's going on here in S.Korea. I rarely watch TV, read newspaper.

Wow, I had no idea South Korea was so small! I haven't really studied t on the map, but I just assumed it was larger.

^ Yeah. It's small. I googled and it said "The area(land size) of South Korea is around 100,000km, which is the roughly the size of Kentucky at 104,000km or even Indiana at 94,000km."

Why PyeongChang is selected

PyeongChang 2018 rejects North Korea offer to host Olympic skiing events

It appears South Korea won’t be sharing the 2018 Winter Olympics with its neighbor to the north.

Chang Ung, an International Olympic Committee member from North Korea, told Voice of America on Tuesday that North Korea’s Masik ski resort could hold 2018 Olympic skiing events if an agreement could be reached, according to Reuters.

The Pyeongchang 2018 organizing committee didn’t seem optimistic in a statement Wednesday.

“Co-hosting goes against International Olympic Committee regulations which stipulate that, unlike the World Cup, all the Olympic events be held within the host city,” the organizing committee said. ”We should make sure technology and administrative works are in optimal condition in order to host an event- and athlete-oriented Olympic Games. Holding some of the events in the Masik resort, more than 300 kilometres away from Pyeongchang, cannot guarantee meeting this goal.”

The current Olympic Charter does not consider venues in multiple countries, outgoing IOC president Jacques Rogge has said. North and South Korea marched together at the opening ceremony at recent Olympics.

September has begun. For children, it is school time again, something I don't miss. Summer will be ending soon, but Halloween season is coming up!

Happy Labor Day to my fellow Americans!

The unofficial end of Summer, a day off for many at work, and for you students, your school year begins in ernest. I don't envy for that.

Tomorrow I begin my first day of university classes. My alarm is set for 7:00, even though I almost never use an alarm to wake up, and even though my first class starts at 10:30.
