But what I mean is, why should it matter how much it benefits the rest of us. Surely it should be about whether it feels physical and emotional pain.

I just mean, for me the most important thing would be who felt the most pain. Regardless of how it benefitted everyone else. Too many humans in the world anyway. Don't need anymore.
